How slick of a deal is it? I'm in the market for a laptop, but I have been out of the computer game for too long to know what all the specs mean.

The original price is $2950, it's over 50% off its original price!!! Is this as slick of a deal as it sounds?

Some of the reviews I saw were not favorable. The GPU seems less ideal than the A series.

Actually, it seems its only one review. Also, I'm just finding this stuff via Google.

Not much on r/thinkpad either. Thinkpads are far more niche than several other laptop brands that come up on here. The chances of a specific user having this specific laptop or even of the same series go down drastically compared to the more mass-market models.

Gpu is pretty ancient. Think 20 series.
But it's a Thinkpad, so if that's what you are looking for with all it's benefits this is a solid deal.

ThinkPad isn't niche -- they are purchased in the quantity of thousands in companies. What's niche is 16" ThinkPad workstation with a dedicated graphics card. Most ThinkPad users go with 14 inch.

You are correct that thousands of companies use Thinkpads. That doesn't change that it's a niche product on a consumer website, which is what Slickdeals is. No corporate company, which is the type of company buying Thinkpads like they are water is waiting for a random user on the internet to post on Slickdeals. A small-scale business like a ma and pa shop may.

My comment is specifically referring to Thinkpad's within the larger laptop market. I would say I spent about 15 minutes trying to find information about this particular laptop model (P16 Gen 1). I wasn't looking very hard because frankly its not that important (graphics card being based on Turing Architecture) and the few things I found about it were either does the job or meh in various aspects of being a laptop. Several of the results were for the AMD variant, and not the Intel variant. However, the most standout point that came across was that the Intel variant was just worse at battery life. Personally, what I found, kills interest in the product for me. This model may just not meet my standards. That's fine. It's a good product for other users. Most laptop models tend to have a bit of information on the information highway. This is concerning because this is not a new model, as we are on Gen 2 now. The lack of popularity regarding the 16-inch model isn't sufficient justification for what I deem the lack of reasonable information.

The more people that have a specific model, the more varying viewpoints you can review and consider for your purchase.

It's been AMD for me past few years for laptops. I don't think I'll go back to Intel just yet with battery/overheating issues, which you may experience with this model.
