About this movie:
  • Director: James Cameron
  • Summary: 57 years after Ellen Ripley had a close encounter with the reptilian alien creature from the first movie, she is called back, this time, to help a group of highly trained colonial marines fight off against the sinister extraterrestrials. But this time, the aliens have taken over a space colony on the moon LV-426. When the colonial marines are called upon to search the deserted space colony, they later find out that they are up against more than what they bargained for. Using specially modified machine guns and enough firepower, it's either fight or die as the space marines battle against the aliens. As the Marines do their best to defend themselves, Ripley must attempt to protect a young girl who is the sole survivor of the nearly wiped out space colony.

Back in the day, had the $150 deluxe laserdisc Constant Angular Velocity version; each side was under 30 minutes and had to flip/change disks every time it ended. It was absolutely the best laserdisc we owned.

Amazing that for $5 we now have a MUCH higher quality and I no longer have to flip laser discs!
Game over, man! Game over!

RIP Bill Paxton
I can confirm with Vudu you do get both versions, but the Special Edition is under Extras, not as a separate movie.

The 4K UHD Bluray disc is on pre-order for $25 (shipping March 12) and appears to include a digital copy. Can't wait!

So is the theatrical version the only one with Dolby Atmos?

Strange I believe I bought this on iTunes previously and only shows HD on Vudu, but 4K on Apple. Sigh, is this horseshit we're already seeing thanks to the name change?

Its always been the case where things will only port (when a title is MA) if you buy it directly at the time of having 4k, otherwise when purchasing HD and getting the free upgrade to 4k it just stays in Itunes.

I bought this day one for $20. I was excited for it. Pains me to see it this cheap now. Not making this mistake again.

They mostly used AI upconverting like True Lies, Mostly.

At least that is what they are saying on Blu-Ray.com.
A few threads on Reddit are very harsh on the quality of this 4k transfer. I will still take a look at $5 on Vudu, would probably pass at $10.

Man the sound bites (I suppose what would be called a meme today) I used on my Mac computer beeps was epic. "Game over man - Game over!"
My favorite Bill Paxton line: "Maybe you aren't up on current events, but we just got our arses kicked, pal!"

I refuse to watch this streaming, the banding on the dark scenes (basically the whole film) will be horrible. Watch on physical media, for sure. I can wait 2 weeks.
This. I can't believe I'm willing to spend $40 on one 4k disc. With the exception of LOTR trilogy. Aliens special edition is worth it though. Mid-March can't come fast enough.

I hope they do a better job on the transfer on this than they did on Alien.

If you're comparing it to BR yes it's much better.
If you're comparing to what's capable, not even close!
Especially when you consider half the movie didn't get any update( better half imo)!

go to the Special Edition on Vudu and but that version for $5 then. https://www.vudu.com/content/brow...on-/180896 [vudu.com]
Only the HD version of the Special Edition is on sale. 4K is $20. But like dexterdouglas said, you get the 4K version of the Special Edition as a bonus feature if you buy the theatrical cut. (I just checked and I can confirm that it's in 4K)

Interesting, I didn't know about some of the movie not getting a treatment. I'll have to read up

Oh come on. You know you miss it! Back in the day, it was a process and an experience to watch a movie or play a CD or something. Doing a bit of work for it like driving to the video store or something somehow made the experience more rewarding. While the modern day conveniences have certainly made our lives easier, we got to admit we have lost something along the way. That said, purchased! Big Grin
