For those that are close to microcenter and see the 13700k combo deal for $550 I made a quick comparison using that
Ram, MOBO, CPU - $550
500w PSU - $50
Case - $70-$110
1TB M.2 - $65-$80
CPU heatsink - $40-$65
4060 - $280-$320

This build will range from $1055 - $1175
*I know this comes with more ram and more SSD storage while giving up the 1TB HDD with the overall loss of 512Gigs of storage add another 65 if you want a true 1 to 1 storage option, but the 16gigs of ram should even the playing field at the very least IMO.

Doing a custom build from Microcenter will net you:
-16 gigs of extra ram (32gigs total) @ 6000MHZ vs prebuilt @ 5600MHZ
-Overclockable CPU
-Non-proprietary motherboard.

Going with this deal will save you:
- Saves you $145 - $265 going for this vs going for the Microcenter variant
-Support from Lenovo
-Prebuilt, so no headaches if you dislike the process
-+512 gigs of storage (albeit it's HDD so its a bit slower)

Over-all this is a great deal! I would prefer the Microcenter deal for the extra 16gigs of ram since I'm only 40 mins away from one of their locations, but I wouldn't be upset getting this as a deal either! The performance per dollar on this deal to me seems like a very close match to the microcenter build.

Note in the custom build adding just $90 could net you a 4060ti with 16gigs of ram which is a significant bump in performance but then you would at the least be $235 extra in the hole.

Thanks OP!

Nice comps. But don't you also need to cough up for Windows in the custom build?

I always snagged windows keys off of sites like g2a, usually around $30 and I've never had issues with the 4 or 5 I've used. Def not saying it's a great or safe route to take but saves some money if you're on a budget

I picked up the microcenter motherboard bundle and I would have picked this instead if I saw this

Here is breakdown of my costs building my own pc

motherboard+32gb ram+Ryzen 7700x: $350
Thermalright CPU coller: $40
WD 2TB NVME $130
GPU RX6650: $220
Fractal Pop Air Case: $65

These parts were all on sale here on slickdeals and they already cost me $800 before taxes.

I have to re-use an old gold rated evga PSU because you can't really get one for $50 these days. I'm still using an unactivated copy of windows. Not to mention the many hours I spent troubleshooting/updating drivers/bios and resetting CMOS battery to get mine to boot up.

The lenovo legion is definitely better.

Is the non proprietary motherboard in regards to the legion prebuild or for the microcenter?

I spent $750 on a similar spec building my own using open box deals along with the microcenter deal.

I would say building your own is nicer if you can reuse some components or know what you are doing. I'm happy with my custom build over buying somthing like this, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to others that I know wouldn't want to build their own.

Actually, Tom's Hardware reviewed the Legion Tower 7i and it uses standard ATX components. This case looks the same so I'm inclined to believe that's also the case here. You'd have to do further research to confirm that.

If you value your time, then yes the Legion T5 is a better deal, but yours is still competitive.

Actual cost aside, there are still some good reasons for enthusiasts to DIY. Although technically the Legion Tower is upgradable, the included PSU is probably not good enough for a mid-range GPU. The 512MB NVMe storage is fine for a boot drive, but if you're gaming you'll need another SSD almost immediately (or at least a SATA HDD for big game downloads).

With your Micro Center DIY build, you already have 2TB of storage, more RAM and also an AM5 upgrade path in the future. For enthusiasts, I like your build more but it's not for everyone.

One of our members provides general advice on these name brand prebuilts: consider it non-upgradable (except for RAM and storage). If you're fine with that, then the deal is legit. But if you're wondering about a better GPU in 3 years, then prebuilt isn't for you. This advice doesn't apply to prebuilts that use standard components, such as CyberPowerPC. (Note it appears this particular system uses standard ATX motherboard and PSU.)

The Corsair RM750e was recently $65. That seemed like a bit of a "price error" but that was a really good deal for a PSU that covers most users.

Tempted to jump on this as it appears to be a solid deal, maybe a bit overkill for my needs and I should be looking for a deal for $200-300 less. I don't game, would be for office work and occasional photo and even less frequently for video editing. Have a rock solid Win7 desktop that I build close to 10 years ago and would need to move a few of the internal drives into this and also move the optical drive as that's needed occasionally. Assuming that the PSU in this could handle these additional drive.

Yes you can upgrade your GPU in both machines, but if you're planning for that you should probably get a higher watt PSU. 700W is where I start for a 4070 and I'd get a 800+ for a 4080 Super card.

Yeah I forgot to mention that. I mainly run Linux for work so I forgot to add it. I did get it for $12 last time I got it via Reddit, but it will cost $130 from places like best buy.
