Just received mine. Tested with chkdsk and passed /f /r /x.
Always test these before you deploy them on servers.

Yeah, you'll find how people who understand how to safely maintain data with backups are happy to ride out the (generally long) life left on these used enterprise drives for the significant discount.

Then you'll also find the people who have no understanding of how to protect data, or the bathtub curve of failure, getting thumbs down for their "warnings"

Let the "Seagate Sucks vs Western Digital Sucks" wars begin. I've been using several of these recertified data center drives from both manufacturers for years without any problems whatsoever but remember on a long enough timeline every drive will eventually fail. Just remember if you're storing critical data on any drive it would behoove you to practice redundancy and back it up elsewhere as well.

Thanks for the info. That part number seems to indicate that it's a Exos x12 series. Released in 2018.
It does not say x12 on the label although the part number is similar with one different digit. At least one seller list it as x12 though. This model was initially released in 2017.

I received two yesterday and ran the test. These are what I have so far, should I return them?

Mine passed disk-filltest, but still had to be returned because of the terrible grinding sound. I cant trust them.

I got mine today. I dropped it in my ProxMox host and it is REALLY quiet. I am running this on it for a few days:

# terminal 1
while true; do dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/XDD bs=1000M; done
#terminal 2
while true; do dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/XDD bs=1000M; done
#terminal 3
while true; do dd if=/dev/XDD of=/dev/null bs=1000M; done

I got the idea from here [gleske.net]

There is nothing wrong with these. They were pulled out of a data center because corporate data centers will replace hard drives after a certain amount of time to avoid disc failures. There is all sorts of discussion on how reliable these are or aren't, and I would encourage you to read through the thread. I bought two and and pleased with the purchase, but some others have reported differently. And of course it's safe to use these in a server for storage, that is what they were made for. The only question is how much life they have and how reliable they will be. I believe these will be reliable and worth it, and others have a different View.

Disk-Filltest or Badblocks scans takes upwards of 30 hours per drive.
Any recommendations for best utility to use on a Windows PC for the disk test/scan?

Buying refurbished hard drive is like buying used condom... it may help some people, but in the end it's dirty and less safety/reliable

This is a pretty good explanation of hard drive life span.

I cannot believe how noisy these drives are. I just cloned my 5TB music drive to it in under 6 hours so that was nice but man when I fired up my computer the next day (I have the drive sitting in a inateck bay) I was like what is that noise? lol

LOUD!!

Mine was super quiet. You'll want to stress test it before trusting it. My three days are up today.
