Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $4 for the 8 port version of this switch, also on sale. A 5 port switch will leave you 2 ports for additional devices, while an 8 port switch will leave you 5 ports for additional devices, given that any switch is going to have a minimum of 3 ports occupied right out of the box (otherwise you wouldn't need a switch). I've helped out friends with small business networking setups, and one of the first things I replace are fully occupied 5 port switches. It's false economy IMO to purchase 5 port switches to save a few bucks, only to have to replace them with 8 port switches a few months or a year later.

.........what?
Why would a 5 port switch require 3 ports occupied out of the box?
You need one port for an uplink to the rest of the network infrastructure... so a 5 port switch will give you 4 ports to use for actual endpoints/PC's. An 8 port switch will give you 7 ports to use for endpoint devices.

And to your other comment: businesses shouldn't be using $12 unmanaged switches in any circumstance.

Anywho, this is a great deal on a 5 port ethernet switch, and the 8 port TL-SG108(which I own) for $16 bucks is also a great deal.

You would be connecting at least 2 devices. So 3 ports used.
