It does have it: "DisplayPort over USB-C, Thunderbolt 4", directly from the Acer product page.

While the specific resolution 5120x1440 (DQHD5120) is not explicitly mentioned in the official GPU 4080 specifications, let's consider some insights from users who have experience with similar resolutions:

The pixel count of 5120x1440 is approximately 7,372,800 pixels, which is slightly less than 4K (3840x2160) with 8,294,400 pixels.

Reviews and benchmarks for the RTX 4080 at 4K resolution can provide a good reference. For example, at 4K, the average frame rate for the RTX 4080 is around 111 FPS, while the RTX 4090 performs at 144 FPS.

Considering your 240Hz monitor, the RTX 4090 would be the obvious choice for smoother performance, especially if you prefer higher settings. However, the RTX 4080 can still handle the resolution effectively, especially if you're willing to adjust settings. You probably just won't be able to max it out to it's full capacity but still should be able to enjoy it

Does this have separate cooling for cpu and gpu or is this one of those idiotic designs where using gpu forces cpu to thermally throttle?

I am not aware of any laptops where the heat pipes are not somehow shared. It is a more efficient way to save space and get better cooling in a confined laptop space. What's important is the number of heat pipes dedicated to each, the thermal compounds on each, the fans system efficiency and the ven system to get air in and out.

Acer is right there with asus or Lenovo for decent cooling solutions imho.

This laptop has excellent cooling. In professional reviews it tends to perform better than 4080 laptops from Lenovo, Asus, and Razer, and nearly matches the gaming performance of some 4090 laptops.

You're saying it's faster than 2023 Asus Strix (not scar) G18 with 4080?

I had this laptop since Sep 2023 and I've been using it since. While a build quality is slightly less than what I would expect a 2k laptop to be, the screen is probably the best aspect of this device. I do find the Acer device integration to be slightly an issue with some disconnects to my Caldigit TS4 initially which I thought were hardware issues but can be fixed via fiddling in windows device manager. Overall its a good device if you don't mind system issues, esp. with the Thunderbolt 4 port.

I could not find on the Acer site where it mentioned anything about the 1000-nit display. Where did this spec come from?

Also the Acer site says the display is IPS. No mention of mini-LED display.

I'm a lame. I've never used anything except an hdmi or mouse port. What do people use all those additional ports for? Are they actually needed

Charge a phone, usb headset, usb external webcam, usb light for zoom meetings, usb keyboard, and wireless mouse dongle are some examples.

My laptop doesn't have as many so I added a usb hub to also add Ethernet . But, most usb hubs are not powered so all devices connected to the hub share the power of the one usb which can cause connectivity issues.

Thunderbolt can be used for adding a monitor, charging by usbc connection, maybe the fastest external storage connection, external GPU, or connecting an external laptop dock. External docks are nice for those that take their laptops away from their desk and want to keep all their devices connected to the dock. When returning, only connecting the usbc thunderbolt to your laptop is fast and super convenient. (Charges and connects all devices instantly)

Thanks for clarification, I've seen this discussed dozens of times about wanting a port etc but never really knew what it was for. I just assumed a higher strength hdmi port for like 4K etc

My recent laptop has that port. So nice to know what it's for now.
