  • Maximum Power, 16 ohms: 2.8W RMS per channel
  • Maximum Power, 32 ohms: 2.4W RMS per channel

  • Maximum Power, 300 ohms: 410mW RMS per channel
  • Maximum Power, 600 ohms: 215mW RMS per channel
  • High Gain: Less than 0.0002% (-112dB) ref 2V RMS at 300 ohms
  • Low Gain: Less than 0.0001% (-119dB) ref 2V RMS at 300 ohms
  • Crosstalk: Less than -86dB, ref 1V out
  • Output Impedance: Less than 0.33 ohms at either gain
  • Input Impedance: 50k ohms minimum in all gains
  • Gain: -10dB, 0dB, or 15dB, selectable via front switch
  • Topology: OPA1656 op-amp for voltage gain with local feedback, OPA1656 (6 stages per channel) as output buffers with local loops, no overall loop feedback.
Heretic vs Magni+ tl:dr:
  • The Magni+ uses a discrete hardware design (using individual analog components) while the Heretic uses op-amp chips instead (components are integrated into a single chip), typically allowing the Heretic to have lower noise and a cleaner signal.

Anyone have a 2 sentence explanation of what you use this for?

Lots of google results about the high quality and that it performs great but i still have no idea what it's for.

In the simplest form. An amplifier circuit to deliver higher power to your headphones. Why? Many reasons. Typically, high end headphones require the higher power to deliver adequate output volume to listener

For audiophiles, the headsets that basically need more juice (power) than what the regular aux ports provide, so with amplifiers like this you can drive them better. Like a headset with 300 ohm resistance would struggle using a regular audio jack, but you use one of these, and then you hear the difference

Quick primer on audio: The audio in all our digital devices is in digital form (bits of 1 and 0). This needs to be converted into analog form (waves) using a device called DAC or Digital to Analog converter. Then the analog signal needs to be amplified to power the sound producing devices such as headphones or speakers using another device called Amplifier or AMP. This device belongs to this class, but it can only power headphones and not speakers.

Coming to whether you need this:
You need this only if you have "wired" high end headphones or earphones. I would not worry about this for the likes of most consumer grade headphones such as Bose wired.
Also remember "wired". if you have anything wireless / bluetooth, the DAC and AMP is built into them and you don't need this. Rather you cannot use this at all.
If you have headphones from the likes of Sennheiser, Grado, Audio Technica, Beyerdynaminc, even some higher end Sonys, then you can get real benefits from this.

Save your time and money. If you have no idea what it's for, you don't need it.

Any chance they lower the price on Amazon too? I'd rather spend gift card money instead of cash, and the savings in shipping would offset some price difference.

I will never buy Schiit again. Worst customer service I have ever dealt with. Rude and condescending. I had to spend $60 to get my under warranty $400 amp fixed after arguing. I sold it immediately after. I just don't get the hype around them. I respect American made but crappy service is a no go for me.

Go for the iFi stuff. Sounds better with better engineering.

Got one for a full price a year or 2 ago. Works great for my purposes: driving Sennheiser HD650 headphones for listening to music and mixing music. All in all, a great piece of Schiit.

Works Great for an apple device
It's perfectly supported on a Windows machine and android just requires you to purchase USB audio player pro to unlock the volume cap. I use an apple dongle dac at work to drive a smsl SH-8s. It helps to use a usb-c extension cable and a really short adapter to keep the analog interconnects as short as possible.

I had been keeping an eye out for the Magni+ and Modi+ to go on sale at some point. Good to see the Magni+ go on closeout. In for 1. I don't need the Modi+, but I'll definitely buy when it eventually goes on clearance. Thank you!

Seems to be limited on I/O options for my tastes since I was considering using one of these on my main daily driver PC...
