I'd wait this one out, folks. Too many players and not enough servers.
Are you the one joking? Issues logging in are well documented. I wasn't able to play all weekend because of the server capacity issues, managed to get in the other night by retrying for 15 minutes. As you noted they dropped an update today which adds an AFK timer which should help this problem significantly.

Game is definitely fun, replay value remains to be seen as there isn't much variety in gameplay.
So, you pay for it, redeem it, install it and then launch it. It will, very likely, immediately throw an error at launch about "Server at capacity". You can't even proceed to training part.

Workaround:
1. Find a person who is already playing this game
2. Add him/her on steam
3. Go to his/her profile on Steam
4. Click on Join Game option from the profile

The game starts without any server issues. There are plenty of nice folks on reddit who posted their steam id and immediately accepting friend requests.
I bought the game yesterday and did that. Discord community was fantastic as well. Mic is not mandatory but really useful to have. Specially if you want to split the group to finish side quests in parallel.

The game is fun, even more so with friends. Yes there are server queues at the moment, but I don't see any other sale for this game anytime soon. You can it try it on Steam and always get a refund for under 2 hours of gameplay on there. If you buy it from GreenMan you are stuck with it, but at least you'll have it in your library for a cheaper price.

This is a joke, right? I've been playing every night without issue. There's nothing to wait for, everyone is having a great time. Plus, the devs have been releasing patches daily to address these issues, including the most recent patch which kicks AFK players.

The game is incredibly fun. Do your part and spread some managed democracy.

You're not wrong on the current state, but this does beg the question of pricing once the server issues are fixed and they handle match making and AFK players. Will the key pricing discount much on this game? 39.99 with out micro transactions, sounds like it's already at a decent price, they are already selling way above expectations, will buyers be likely to find discounts for the 6 months following fixes to the status quo?

Game is good. Once waited an hour to get in the servers. Mostly waited between 10-20 minutes. I just open it when I get home and eat a snack/do emails while I'm waiting so it hasn't been a big deal.

It is a ton of fun if you like the starship troopers militized satire. After getting turned into dust by my friends 500KG missile strike, all I'm left to do is be resummoned and let out a nice- "I'm here to do my part!" as should be protocol to serve Super-Earth. "Remember, you can always take a break. That is if you want to be remembered as a coward!"

Tutorial has some pretty funny satire as well.

a few bugs and I've been stuck in a loading screen once which sucks because you have to relaunch and rewait in the server queue. a friend crashed once. but I think the game is going good places.

edit: server problems are fixed as of this weekend and nobody reports waiting in servers. I myself have crashed and booted right back in with no issue during peak times.
