Are you the one joking? Issues logging in are well documented. I wasn't able to play all weekend because of the server capacity issues, managed to get in the other night by retrying for 15 minutes. As you noted they dropped an update today which adds an AFK timer which should help this problem significantly.
Game is definitely fun, replay value remains to be seen as there isn't much variety in gameplay.
So, you pay for it, redeem it, install it and then launch it. It will, very likely, immediately throw an error at launch about "Server at capacity". You can't even proceed to training part.
Workaround:
1. Find a person who is already playing this game
2. Add him/her on steam
3. Go to his/her profile on Steam
4. Click on Join Game option from the profile
The game starts without any server issues. There are plenty of nice folks on reddit who posted their steam id and immediately accepting friend requests.
I bought the game yesterday and did that. Discord community was fantastic as well. Mic is not mandatory but really useful to have. Specially if you want to split the group to finish side quests in parallel.

Game will have server capacity issues (for now at least) if you try to play normally. On Steam you can bypass the server at capacity screen by doing Quick Join from steam friends menu (if you have a friend playing on steam). On PS5 you can bypass the server at capacity screen by doing quick join from the game's submenu on the PS5 main menu, but matchmaking still will not work for a bit until you've actually connected to matchmaking servers. If you have other friends wanting to play, you don't need matchmaking anyway.
If you're looking to join random games with random players, you may not have the most pleasant time although the game is still playable... you just have to wait longer because you have to connect to matchmaking servers.

The server queues are annoying but dang is this a good game and worth it at MSRP TBH.
It's like Deep Rock Galactic with way better graphics, progression depth, and mass objectives. I'm honestly surprised it's not from the same devs. Though TBH Arrowhead has also put out some gems before so it checks out.
How's solo play? What I've read so far is it's basically geared for co-op.
Solo play is good, but some levels are crazy hard, but in a fun way. Literally this game captures the sense Chaotic War and it's amazing. It's a better Starship Troopers and Terminator game than the actual franchises.
Also, the server issues may be real, but rare. I been playing consistently for 2 weeks from 5 to 10pm and the only issue is Crossplay and occasional drops. But the great thing is you can join back with your group and still get the XP, so it is not a loss or feel like a lost cause. Game is literally 9/10 for co-op.

It forces an online connection to play so yes it's geared that way. I hate online gaming and was hoping this could have solo play but I hear the difficulty is high for average players to go solo.
This game truly is worth the hype, the problem is that they expected 50k concurrent users within a year and have somewhere between 450k and 1m+ trying to play it during peak hours and they are hard capped around 400k. Critical success can be rough when a company isn't quite ready for it. It'll take a bit but I'm sure they'll figure it out in the next few months.
The gameplay loop is a little bit redundant but it is a live service game so should be growing over time. What they do have is a blast though, haven't laughed this much at a game in a while and it's filling the Overwatch shaped hole in my friends group's hearts.

I made the mistake of buying this at $34 last saturday, have tried several times to login but have never actually been able to play. I'll sometimes get the tutorial part, but within a minute ill lose connection, so even if i complete it, it never registers as completed and I have to keep redoing it, if it even loads that part of the game. I'd absolutely wait a few more weeks before buying, its not worth the time. I'm back to getting through my first playthrough of baldurs gate 3.
That said, the servers are overloaded. If you're trying to connect during peak hours you could be waiting 10-60 minutes. There have been several symptoms of the same issue (black screen, different error messages on the loading screen, etc) but after patches you just get to the loading screen with a servers at capacity message. They are working hard to increase server capacity. Can't handle the queue? Just wait until they increase the server capacity or play off-peak. The game plays remarkably well for the 1st week, I've had very few problems once in.
I recommend holding off on purchasing. The evenings the past few days have been extremely difficult to login to the game. Yesterday for a full hour I could login to the game, but not start any missions or join any in progress. The game is fun when it works, but it is not working often currently.
