Wow, didn't know gt made a full suspension at even $2,300. They seemed like a high end boutique brand a few years ago when I picked up a giant. $1120 is siiiick.

This is a smokin' deal for the money considering that similarly equipped hardtails are not much less expensive.

The only thing I don't like is that there's no callout as to whether or not the wheelset and tires are tubeless compatible. Going tubeless is the fastest way to improve your cycling experience as a noob, as you reduce your chances of flatting on a ride to almost zero, so long as you don't live in some horribly spiky place. Lookin' at you, American Southwest.

Even with that, the price is good enough that later upgrading the wheels and tires is worth it if you decide MTB is for you.

As somebody that actually owns a bike with Advent X 10 speed on it IT CLIMBS FINE. 10 speed, 11 speed, 12 speed, it doesn't make a damn difference in how easy it is to climb. What matters is the GEARING. I also have a hardtail with 11 speed shimano deore 11-51 on it both have 32 tooth chainrings and in the real world the difference between the 11-51(shimano) and 11-48(microshift) isn't noticeable. The Microshift Advent X is on my primary bike.

The difference between a 48 tooth cog and a 51 or 52 is about 6% or 8% gear reduction, respectively. If you ride moderately challenging terrain, that could make the difference between clearing a hill and walking up it.

This is a pretty slick deal. Not as good as the Vitus Mythique VRX deal a couple months ago (that bike had a much better fork, better shock, better brakes, better crankset, better wheels/rims, arguably better tires, and a slightly better drivetrain), but GT is not going bankrupt AFAIK. Per the GT website, this bike uses WTB STX i25 rims, which are tubeless capable.

The difference is
48t = .67
51t = .63
With a 32 tooth chain ring. And as some one that rides moderately challenging terrain I can't tell any real difference. Swap a 30t chainring on it for a few bucks and now the advent x has the same .63 if it is a problem.

For a difference of .04 which is 6% of this bikes .67 lowest gear ratio. May not matter much on easy stuff, but introduce some steep grades with less than ideal traction or a long uphill slog, and it can be the difference between easily making it, uncomfortably getting through, or walking.

Swapping in a smaller chainring gets you lower gears, but at the expense of the high end.

If that 6% difference is enough to matter to you climbing then the high end difference between a 30 and 32 chainring isn't something you need to be worrying about on a 30+lb full suspension mountain bike.
