1000ft of flat cable is $425. A crimper is $25. 100 RJ45 connectors costs $15.

If you are making 25ft cables, you can make 40 of them at $10.63 each for cable alone.

$0.15/connector means $0.30/cable.

Each 25 ft cable comes out to $10.93.

How many people need 500ft or 1000ft of "flat" ethernet cable though? Also being flat, I think it would actually be more expensive to buy the spool and connectors.

I bought the 500ft spool. Added a couple switches up in the attic and ran CAT6 to every room and the garage. And wired up some PoE cameras too. It worked out very well.

Sure, for one cable. But how does the math look after 20 cables?

Buy a crimper and you can cut those $3 25ft cables into multiple useful lengths and save some money there too.

Stranded cable is far more difficult to crimp than solid, spool cable.

It's pretty complicated for a novice and the tools will run you $100. Also, they recommend NOT going passthrough.

I have all of that. But you know what for 3 bucks I'll save the time and labor of making sure I've done everything correctly. If it were a longer run that I needed sure I'll break out the tools

Unless you are wiring the house, there is no reason to buy spool + tool to do it yourself.

How do these flat cables handle interference, given that they are probably not twisted?

$39 minimum for free shipping though, so still a better deal on Amazon if you only need a couple.
