"Bc I jumped into Xbox bc of bc capabilities only now to find out we must pay for bc capabilities or the bc tax. So if I want games to run on Xbox one AND XSX I have to find the right edition for "cross gen"."
I'm not so sure you understand how backwards compatibility works.
You can use an external drive to store games from previous generations, you don't need to have this card to store and play Xbox, 360, and Xbox one titles. Some Xbox one titles have been optimized for series X/S for free and those would need to be stored on your internal storage, or this storage card.
As far as "cross gen" titles, some publishers chose not to utilize Xbox's Smart Delivery system and wanted to double dip on consumers. Nacon is one of these examples. They published WRC 10 as an Xbox One title and an Xbox Series title with no compatibility between the two SKUs, and little to no difference in quality. That's not the fault of Xbox that a publisher wants to try and milk the player instead of utilizing the Smart Delivery system. Just buy the correct edition that works for you. 🤷🏻 ♂️
It blows me away that these are still selling for more than $100 for the 1TB. I picked up two 2TB Seagate Xbox SSDs for $97 each because they were being clearanced at Target.
PS5 using m.2 drives was one of the smartest things they could have done. It's a bummer that Microsoft would rather force us to use slower and proprietary storage solutions that can't be competed with.

I'd like to get my nephew an expansion card for his series s, but I know jack about consoles... the artificially inflated price for these cards is nuts.

Series X was down to like $350 during the holidays. That's a better buy when it comes back. More and more games like Avatar will run like crap on the S.

Been watching this and the WD Black version on CCC for quite some time. Both rarely go on sale, so I'd say this is a good price. The WD Black has a 5 year warranty where the Seagate has only 3 years, so that's something to consider if warranty is important to you. Hard to find info on MTBF or TBW between the two, but I expect they are similar.

Normal price is $150, so it's more like a 17% discount
It not the best discount to date but it is still better than MSRP.
I get the logic of delay gratification as far as scoring spickdeal however it is completely subjective to shopper. Waiting forever isn't always beneficial especially when there a "need" for it.
YMMV

Even with competition, price has not gone down. It got to the point of consumer resentment. Why? Bc I jumped into Xbox bc of bc capabilities only now to find out we must pay for bc capabilities or the bc tax. So if I want games to run on Xbox one AND XSX I have to find the right edition for "cross gen". This is the anti-consumer mentality. Why? Bc in music, when one purchases a software, competitors offer cross-promotion discount. But for video games who makes over $99 billion in sales, consumer do nothing, and they make us pay again on another platform.
Just saying, when the pandemic hits an indie company could have jacked his price up on head gear that facilitates breathing for those infected with virus. He chose not to and charged a reasonable fee.
Anyways back to this. Playstation made memory upgrade easy. This shouldn't have been difficult on XSX. Price for 1 TB should not be this $$$. The fact third parties offered a cheap alternative only for Microsoft to brick it with updates proves that they kept the price for this thing up by disallowing options. Evenmade the internal HDD upgrade a pita.
So unless this is under $100, no deal at $125.

I agree that the no uograble internal storage is bad, but PS is no saint either. How stupid is it that you can't use PS4 controller for PS5 games, you have to only use the ps4 controller for ps4 games. that not consumer friendly. Also ive yet to see this Cross gen thing you say. Even if you buy the Xbox One version you get a free upgrade to series s/x for free. The only exception that ive seen is that Activision for some reason defied MS a few yrs ago and made this whole stupid cross gen version and only XBone version nonsense.
not to mention on the PS every single game you have to pay extra to upgrade to ps5 version. No free upgrades for most game like there is on xbox.
The point im trying to make here is that both sides are not great, but your claiming as if xbox is very bad and PS is some saint. Its not, if anything a little worse.

yeah, if anything PS is milking customers a lot more than Xbox in every way other than Storage. That guy just has no idea what he's talking about.
even worse ps4 controller dont work on PS5 for all games.

Since the PS2 days, Sony has always been here you go, this is how you easily upgrade your storage. PS2 requires the network adapter for the IDE Ports, both PS3 and PS4 were 2.5 SATA ports, and nvme on the PS5.
Meanwhile Microsoft has always been oh you want more storage? Suck it, pay up biatch.
I definitely need more storage on my XSX but I'm refusing to pay up
