I have had a completely different experience with Sony about my XM4s. I had the dreaded battery issue with the XM4 and Sony provided a shipping label and refunded my purchase price. I had the original receipt. And the product was out of warranty. I have nothing but good things to say about how Sony handled this. You can search the Internet and find lots of reviews with experiences such as mine. Most other companies are a pain to deal with regarding warranty repairs. And that is when their product is in warranty. Sony is great
What Sony does depends on the serial number of your charging case. If the case was recorded in Sony's system as having been sold to a wholesale refurbish company like Secondipity, then it would refuse to provide any service, paid or free.

edit: I speak from my experience dealing with Sony support for a refurbished XM4 I bought from Secondipity.

Highly unlikely that you had it for a year considering this product was released on July 23, 2023
I had the xm4. Same concept different model.
I also have the over the head xm4 that I bought brand new and never had issues with those.

I owned the XM4 and have been using the XM5s for a month. Both have excellent voice quality for phone calls. I have asked people at the other end to verify my sounds quality (obviously I can't tell by myself)
Thank you! This is very helpful especially you've owned both! I'll be looking at an upgrade then!

I recommend potential buyers review the battery debacle that's plagued the XM4s and possibly the XM5s as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyHead...ry_issues/

See the last update on the OP regarding the XM5s reportedly having similar issues. I've personally had to replace the batteries in my XM4s 3 times and still seem to have battery issues. I get about 90 minutes out of my right earbud even after replacing the battery only a few months ago, even after updating the firmware.
Got my replaced free of charge by Sony and never upgraded the firmware after receiving the replacements, battery life is nearly perfect, all in all I won't upgrade the firmware ever on them

For me my xm4 earbuds was out of the manufacturer warranty and I didn't have my own warranty on them and Sony fixed them free of charge. Seen so many ppl having issues so guess Sony decided to fix most of them

Thats a good comment. But it is is not a knock on Sony. We cannot expect them to honor warranties for product not purchased at authorized retailers.

You are welcome. I do agree with a few other comments about the XM5 in that they feel "slippery" to handle. Once in the ears they are fine but I dropped at least one earbud a couple of times before getting the hang of how to handle them while putting them in and out of the case. The XM4 case was also better. But the XM5 has better ANC and better overall sound for music.

Yea, its quite rare that a manufacturer goes that far to fix an issue with their product.

Currently using the XM4 which I love. Just ordered the XM5 and wondering how much of an upgrade it is.

Oh yeah, no doubt. This link is to Secondipity. If Sony dropped XM5 price down to $150 then I'd jump at it.

I was also burned on the XM4 and Sony refused to help because serial number was flagged as refurb. I'm also past my 2 year warranty, so SOL.

I think the best course of action is if you jump on this deal, set a reminder a couple months before 2 year secondipity warranty expires and simply file a claim if you need to. Also, once you are past 2 year warranty, simply never update the firmware again. Or if you do, let that version marinate in the market for a month to make sure there is nothing wrong with it before attempting.

I also like to think so long as the XM4 firmware bricking update wasn't intentional, it's unlikely Sony would want this to happen again. Having a fatal firmware update on two successive generations is reputational suicide.

The sound profile is supposedly different. You might like or hate. I've heard the bass is higher by default than XM5 was, but with the EQ it's probably not difficult to get it just how you like.

I think the 25% smaller, 20% lighter are the real wins. Also ANC is supposed to be superior.

Seller is good, the product not so good. Warranty is a waste of time.

Just sent my XM4 to AllState a 3rd time for battery issues. I don't even think they do anything with it and just return it back because they just get so many like this.
They've now given up and just refunding me. Looks like I'll need to buy new earbuds.

Secondipity has really bad reviews. Great price for these buds (which I am still in the market for), but don't trust the seller.
My experience is, A year ago I purchased the xm4 earbuds directly from their site then returned them without issue (uncomfortable fit) you have to keep track of shipping then email customer service with a screenshot of "received by" , they refunded the same day.
Right after, I purchased the xm4 headphones there & they arrived almost like new & still hold the same. Maybe I got lucky.

I'm returning mine - they have this weird audio bug where any movement with them while ANC is turned on causes this popping sound effect that's very noticeable/annoying when there is no music/low music. Even moving you mouth/singing along/yawning/etc causes the "pop" to happen. Disabling it makes it go away but it's still incredibly annoying.

The pair I got were in great condition, looked new, included new buds and everything. They were connected to someone named "Andrew" previously though. I did a reset on them and everything looked really clean.

Even though I have a Pixel 8 Pro, I might just go pick up the AirPods USB-C Pros.
