Yup, you have to use pataday every day for a month for it to be effective due to it being a mast cell stabilizer. It doesn't relieve itch on first contact like an antihistamine
As others have said, lumify whitens the eye so you will look like you don't have allergies but will do nothing to relieve itch or other symptoms. I'm a big fan of lumify but using it to treat allergies would literally be wasting your money unless you used it in conjunction with an antihistamine.
I usually buy that for my antihistamine eye drops but this seems like a great deal.
Lastacaft is much more effective and much newer. It's advertised as a once a day drop so I usually try to use it late morning and it lasts the whole day. This is cheaper but you'll have to use it more often which may work out better for some

I use a drop of Alaway in each eye every morning for allergies and a drop of Soothe XP in each eye before I go to bed.
PS: Do not use redness reducer eye drops if you have allergies. These are not designed for use for more than a few days or you will damage your eyes.

If you're talking about visine and clear eyes red eye reduces I agree but the active ingredient in lumify is brimonidine which is a glaucoma drop that people take everyday. So in the case of lumify I would say it's generally accepted as safe for daily use

For me it was $19.17 - $0.96 (S&S) - $4.79 (coupon) - $8.00 (coupon) = $5.42 + $1.22 (tax) = $6.64.
Not sure how I got 2 coupons.

It can be had really cheap (well, free!) from Amazon Pharmacy, if you have Prime and sign up for their $5/month RxPass. But you'll need to have your doctor prescribe it and send the prescription to Amazon Pharmacy.
RxPass is one of the best and least known benefits of Amazon Prime. For $5/month, you can get any of over 60 common prescription drugs for free. For allergy sufferers, Fluticasone (generic flonase) is also included. Either or both of those make RX Pass worth it for me. I also get Atorvastatin for my cholesterol and lisinopril for my high blood pressure. And as I get older, if I wanted generic Viagra or Propecia or dozens of other drugs, I could get those FREE too - with the $5/month RX Pass membership.
