The PlayStation or Xbox branding is just branding; you can reformat them to work on anything. I've bought a few of these in the past and I currently use them for data storage/backups for my regular PC. If it's not compatible with whatever you want to use it with, you can always reformat.

As the OP says, though, they're SMR drives, which means that their read/write speeds are pretty slow and not the best for actual gaming.

Just be aware the series s/x will only load games directly from internal storage and expansion slot.

So you can use this, or another drive, to use as a drive to offload games your not currently playing but it won't work to play games off of.

I know, right?

It's like paying extra money for Nintendo Switch branded SanDisk microsd cards.

Will these work with Xbox? I don't understand how an hard drive can only work on one system or one PC, that's just not possible.

Should work fine on Xbox Smilie

My guess is they branded this for PlayStation due to the color scheme.

Thank you for bringing this up! I knew I forgot something x.x

Somewhat related but I recently bought a 16TB HDD for my Series X mainly to play my Xbox One games as well as moving Series X games there whenever I'm not playing them as I have crappy internet x.x

Should work fine for playing games unless they are optimized for X|S.

Yes the drive can be reformatted. These drives are sold pre-formatted to work with the system they are designed for. But you can reformat them for: PC, Mac, Chromebook, PlayStation, Xbox, etc.

let me tell you, Nintendos a real jerk for tricking all the not tech savvy parents and kids into buying stupidly overpriced microSD cards.

I have a series X plus 1TB hard drive, the way it works is Xbox One games work of slow Hard drives but any Series X enhanced games require a high speed SSD, meaning the Xbox branded expansion or internal. But you can transfer games back an forth regardless of what kind

No way for a 4TB spin drive for $70 nowadays as a deal
I haven't been keeping up with prices but $70 for portable 4tb hdd doesn't seem awful. I definitely would hop on it if one needs more drives for back ups.
