I have used these forever but Bosch is having a major quality issues since switching their mfg to Mexico. I just received one from Amazon with the internal passageways not punched fully open, you can look down in them and see the problem. Check the box for made in Mexico and don't use them. Its all over the web if you want to look into the issue.
Since Walmart started carrying Toyota oem filters I don't bother with these brands anymore.

No need to change filters at the same interval as oil

Same goes for the current AC delco, unless I got a crap shoot off amazon. There was glue along the anti drain back valve and also along the filtered side of things. No bueno as far as quality.

Then again, I've had a fram filter where after I changed the filter the anti drain back was clunking around...

I've bought one of these boshs' recently... their can seems to be made of twice the metal as other brands...

I have heard many people say they would rather buy a Toyota assembled in Japan rather than North America. Also, I have owned many Volkswagens. Everyone one was assembled in Germany. I have been told by many mechanics that the ones assembled in Mexico have more problems than those from Germany. My jettas and golf's never had any significant problems.
Wait till you see how bad the American made Hondas are. Good lord.

Interesting. I didn't know that was a "new thing" as I'm newish to Toyota ownership.

I hadn't really researched filters for my Venza and so I just figured OEM was about as safe as I could be under the circumstances. But my dealer was actually out of stock. So I literally just went across the street to Walmart (I was planning on getting the oil there anyway) and was kinda surprised to not only see an OEM filter there, but also that it was a LOT cheaper.

I've just kept doing that ever since.

Yeah just be careful, there are lowlifes out there that put a fram or other filter in place of the toyota to save a buck. I've been burned on this.

FWIW The label on the filter in Amazon picture says, Made in USA.
