How much actual space does this 32gb hard drive give you? I feel like after operating systems/factory stuff it's probably enough for a couple apps.

I skipped this deal the last time around since, per the review linked above, there will be no future versions of Android available (this runs V12, V14 has been available since late last year). Does anyone know if this can be rooted to install a later version?

I would be careful with these tablets, I received one free as part of their NXT paper beta program. There were issues with wide vine codec support. I can't watch a lot of content from streaming providers in 1080p. I would only complain if I had paid for it. Definitely agree that the Amazon fire tablets have better out of box support.

Yes, but to my knowledge, the Fire tablets have access to only a small subset of apps available to regular android.

The Fire is passable, even quite good, only with FireToolbox, but then you cannot give it system updates ever. (And even with security updates, Fire OS is limited to one outdated version of Android per tablet gen.)

The worst complaint for a tablet, even in the sub-$200 price range, as posted in the PCMag review above, is that it commits to only 2 years of update support and only Android 12. But comparatively for anything else in this (now sub-$200) price range, this seems pretty much what you'll get. (The Lenovo P11 [amazon.com] that PCMag says is slightly better is still $225 minimum; other Lenovo tablets are posted on SD from time to time but only the M-series seems to drop to $150 or less).

That said, if your use case for a tablet is just reading full-color pdfs/comics, web browsing, movies, and ultralight gaming and non-precise-non-intense whiteboarding, then a $80 Fire or old-gen refurb Lenovo would be great -- I still use a 2019 Fire myself for this, though the old Android and app bloat is beginning to make some apps unusable.

Addendum: Note the list price on the Lenovo M10 Plus is $150, and it gets quite good reviews [notebookcheck.net] (3rd gen only). The current gen Fire [notebookcheck.net] hardware is also quite good if you don't need to upgrade Android. Finding either on sale may beat this deal.

32GB storage on Android 12. Good luck moving apps to SD-Card on this thing.....

The OS itself takes up 15GB.....

But you can also install Google App Store on them and get most standard Android apps
