I own the standard, non-AX version and have used it extensively in my travels domestically and globally. There's a walkthrough published by gli on this exact topic here: https://docs.gl-inet.com/router/e...ve_portal/

This is also great for cruises where they base your cost on per device. Hook this up first and tie to your account and then connect all your devices to the gl to save. Granted this only works when in your room, but definitely helps for those cruise line that charge per device.

With amazon business account, there is an additional $31 promotional certificate that can be clipped which brings the original $82.90 down by extra $31 and total price comes to about $51.90

Can I use my spare phone with nord vpn, and use Hotspot to connect devices, what's the difference and benefits vs this.
No. VPN tunneling is not possible on iPhone(atleast yet) and on Droid it is difficult unless you are good technically.

How does this work in a hotel where you have to log in through a captive portal to activate wifi for your hotel?
You have to hardcode the MAC address

Can someone share a guide on how people use routers like this to work abroad while VPNing to the States? I've been googling but don't seem to know the search term to reach a straightforward guid.

Been trying to figure out which of GL.iNet routers are best for this, or if this router works well.
This video helped me set up an Opal which then connects to my Beryl while abroad. You're connection will use your home IP. Or, you can switch it off, and pick up the local IP which might be good if you're checking out what the local Netflix catalog is.

Basically you log on with your phone and then look up your phone or pc's Mac. Then use that in your router, tricking it to think it's your phone or pc

Yes it does. It's a huge convenience to have it with you, if you are traveling with family or multiple devices.
i also like it to back up vacation photos and videos everyday from phone to the network attached storage (usb stick and micro sd)

"ditto33" did not mention what spare phone he/she has.
but the Android has wide range option to use VPN tunneling, very straightforward process

Amazon Business double dipping on the $31 code seems dead

Edit: Disregard. Seems it's been that way for a while now.

I have this exact router with me on a trip thru Europe. While it is a slick little device, I have not been able to get this thing working at the two airports and one hotel I've been to so far. Always an issue with the captive portal, no matter the workarounds provided by GL-iNet (MAC cloning and disable/reenable DNS rebinding protection). I got it working once at my hotel, went out to dinner and came back finding it no longer working. I have about 3 more different hotels and several more airports I will get to try it out on… If I cant get it working seamlessly at at least one of the hotels, I plan to return it when I get back to the US.

Didn't you set it in repeater mode, and then just login from there?
