I own the standard, non-AX version and have used it extensively in my travels domestically and globally. There's a walkthrough published by gli on this exact topic here: https://docs.gl-inet.com/router/e...ve_portal/
This is also great for cruises where they base your cost on per device. Hook this up first and tie to your account and then connect all your devices to the gl to save. Granted this only works when in your room, but definitely helps for those cruise line that charge per device.
With amazon business account, there is an additional $31 promotional certificate that can be clipped which brings the original $82.90 down by extra $31 and total price comes to about $51.90

Spent the whole morning wrestling the router to get it to work for repeater+router mode. This should work right out of box...

Long story short, the box won't get DHCP from server (lacking the trace capturing ability doesn't help troubleshooting). Needed to get an alpha firmware from this forum https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/beryl...ng/37999/8

Also, just in case if the environment you are in restricts random MAC, the work around is:

Navigate to Network -> MAC Address

Instead of using factory default, I took the MAC of the Ethernet and provisioned under Manual page to supply to the Repeater interface.

If you really want to trace packets , load a terminal app or SSH to the device, to tcpdump to get all packets information.
The repeat mode is for no brainer...I have been using it since day 1 , a very straightforward setup process. it acts as a DHCP server to the downstream connections on default...

I am currently on anthem of the Seas and can confirm(when it works) that this works fine
This is my first cruise with this or any wifi travel router.i telework on cruises some so i need at least 2 connections or deal with nothing for my phone when I'm working. The issue in dealing with is disconnects from this wifi router. Still debugging it, but i am starting to notice the light on this router going from solid to blinking and my phone disconnected and this ssid is not available until the light is solid again. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried the cruise line is figuring out ways to stop this. Or the router or usb cord could have an issue.
The blinking light issue happened to my most recent stay at the Palm in LV last month, it didn't happen to my other hotel stay a week before that, so not sure if the hotel/cruise had figured out a way to stop us from using device like this, I hope not.

How many devices are you using simultaneously on an airplane and why?

Got mine yesterday and spent some time getting Easytether working on it (for USB tethering to my phone that bypasses hotspot data restrictions). Not exactly intuitive, but it does work.

I find it easier to use a Windows 10/11 Laptop to hotspot the Wifi. You already have your laptop, why would you need another device?

Who is your carrier and what kind of phone do you have?

Basically, it worked the first day and not the next day. I had to use random Mac address to get it to work again. It worked 1 day then stopped until i used another random Mac address. I suspect they look in a database for the device. I'm thinking about using the Mac address for my old phone next. It definitely feels like they are trying to stop us from using Travel repeaters.

I'm using my GLinet travel router right now from Cancun! I'm running wireguard on it, connecting it back to my home router.
I've used it on a United flight once as a dlna server streaming media from a thumb drive. It interfered with the flight's WiFi because the radio broadcast power was set to "high". Whoops!
