Thanks for sharing and including all the links to the extras! You can use this 'in the field' with a PPS battery bank; however, I use this at a desk with a dedicated power supply and the silicone cord. I did initially spring for their solder pen holder, but then commissioned this one and it makes life easier https://thangs.com/designer/ZackF...%21-534477

I bought a pinecil along with a bunch of extras a year and a half ago, I already had a hakko, but I wanted something more convenient/travelable for quick jobs (guitar work, various electronics tasks like repairs, replacing batteries, etc.), and it is awesome! I haven't pulled out the Hakko since i got it. I also have the power supply on my work desk which I use daily, love this thing too, best desktop USB charger I have ever had, and I have gone through a lot of them. The V/A display is sweet. Here is what I picked up, along with a small pelican case to store everything in along with solder, etc. Yes the holder sucks, but for $2... it works. I have larger soldering stations w/ helping hands, etc. when needed, linked the main 2 I use below that are decent for the money. Also included links to a couple of good solder... don't cheap out on solder as is makes a huge difference to the ease of the job. Bigger gauge for stuff like guitars, smaller for small electronics:

Pinecil order:

PINECIL – Smart Mini Portable Soldering Iron 1 $25.99
USB TYPE-C TO USB TYPE-C SILICONE POWER CHARGING CABLE - 1 meter length 1 $3.49

PINECIL Portable Mini Stand 1 $1.99
PINECIL Replacement Tip Contacts 1 $1.00
PINECIL Soldering Tip Set (Fine) 1 $24.99
PINECIL Soldering Tip Set (Gross) 1 $24.99
PinePower - 120W Desktop Power Supply - US version 1 $37.99

It's $38 after shipping vs $40 with prime shipping on Amazon from the same seller, although I'm not 100% sure the Amazon listing is for the v2. https://www.amazon.com/PINECIL-Sm...B096X6SG13

I want to do some repairs and mods to my old video game consoles, would this be a good solder iron choice? What should I buy along with it? Am still a newbie to soldering.

I've used the V1 for a couple of years and recommend the pinecil over many name brands (~15 years of soldering experience). I've used this for small surface mount components to big 0 gauge for automotive. The heating element for these irons are in the tip so they heat up much quicker than name brand ones. Plus I could use this with my bench power supply, laptop USB c charger, and power bank.

I also have the fine tip set and mainly use the small chisel as an everyday tip and swap tips depending on use case.

I keep this as my portable soldering iron for personal and work since it's small. If I didn't already have the T12 soldering station on my workbench, I would just get another pinecil for the bench.

What is the benefit of USB-C here? It is not like it could run on regular power bank?

I definitly don't recommend the big station those arms don't stay in position and rubberband back once moved past a small window.

I can't wait until Chinese makers start copying the inductive based soldering technology in these compact irons. They precisely regulate every part of the tip.
Any idea how far along they are? Should hit alixpress for slickdealers soon after for less than half this price shipped. I can wait a month for shipping at that type of slick deal.

If the bank supports a high wattage PD spec like 65w and beyond it can, also you can update the firmware via USB C and use standard USB-C PD Laptop chargers to power it.

Why do you need to upgrade the firmware of a soldering iron?

Years? I wouldn't wait, especially when the Pinecil is so cheap. Whenever the RF clones show up, they'll probably be closer to $100, and the tips are usually more expensive too.

Tuning the temperature loop, startup behavior, improved compatibility with finicky power banks, setting standby timers or criteria, different power levels, add a hall effect sensor so it goes to sleep when in a stand.

Just not loving the shipping, keeping me from biting. Used to free ship thresholds I guess

Shouldn't all of them be done when they release the product? Even a damn soldering iron is copying the gaming industry and releasing half baked product?

Generally in the world of DIY products like this with IoT type hardware smart people come up with amazing ideas no one even thought of when the product was initially made, or further research nets better ideas/settings/etc down the road. It's not as if the product isn't perfectly usable out of the gate, but they add even more cool/useful functionality as time goes on.
