Thanks for sharing and including all the links to the extras! You can use this 'in the field' with a PPS battery bank; however, I use this at a desk with a dedicated power supply and the silicone cord. I did initially spring for their solder pen holder, but then commissioned this one and it makes life easier https://thangs.com/designer/ZackF...%21-534477

I bought a pinecil along with a bunch of extras a year and a half ago, I already had a hakko, but I wanted something more convenient/travelable for quick jobs (guitar work, various electronics tasks like repairs, replacing batteries, etc.), and it is awesome! I haven't pulled out the Hakko since i got it. I also have the power supply on my work desk which I use daily, love this thing too, best desktop USB charger I have ever had, and I have gone through a lot of them. The V/A display is sweet. Here is what I picked up, along with a small pelican case to store everything in along with solder, etc. Yes the holder sucks, but for $2... it works. I have larger soldering stations w/ helping hands, etc. when needed, linked the main 2 I use below that are decent for the money. Also included links to a couple of good solder... don't cheap out on solder as is makes a huge difference to the ease of the job. Bigger gauge for stuff like guitars, smaller for small electronics:

Pinecil order:

PINECIL – Smart Mini Portable Soldering Iron 1 $25.99
USB TYPE-C TO USB TYPE-C SILICONE POWER CHARGING CABLE - 1 meter length 1 $3.49
USB TYPE-C TO USB TYPE-C SILICONE POWER CHARGING CABLE - 1.5 meter length 1 $3.99
PINECIL Portable Mini Stand 1 $1.99
PINECIL Replacement Tip Contacts 1 $1.00
PINECIL Soldering Tip Set (Fine) 1 $24.99
PINECIL Soldering Tip Set (Gross) 1 $24.99
PinePower - 120W Desktop Power Supply - US version 1 $37.99
PINECIL Break Out Board 1 $3.99

It's $38 after shipping vs $40 with prime shipping on Amazon from the same seller, although I'm not 100% sure the Amazon listing is for the v2. https://www.amazon.com/PINECIL-Sm...B096X6SG13

I did. Misinterpreted as cable included but I found it. Not convinced I need to buy more cables when I have many cables and have to wait 15-25 days vs amazon.
Up to you of course. I found the Silicon flexible cable to be much easier to have on the Pinecil than a regular USB cable. You wont know unless you do an A-B.

You are right. Just that I don't need another device (hardly ever need to use my excellent wired radioshack unit) and the fact that I have to pay for cable, wait for ship, etc. Helped me decide I don't need it

I didn't need it either, but I got $40 worth of amusement out of it when I was able to tell my wife "I'm updating my soldering iron firmware!"when she asked what the hell I was doing.

for occasional electrical/electronics work, the fine tip set is suitable?
If being honest, it's overkill on top of the overkill of the base product itself, haaah. But yes fine tip set has some commonly used tips in there

I'm tempted to pick this up for some broken wires that I need to solder back together in my vehicle. I can't remove the wiring from the car. Do I need anything else besides this iron to get the job done? I don't wanna buy any of the additional mentioned stuff if I don't have to. Yes, I have a USB laptop charger.

You'll want flux and some means to clean the tip of the iron but that can be as simple as a worn out sponge wetted a little. An iron holder may come in handy if you don't have something metal or silicone you can set it on, half the time I just set my soldering iron on the concrete though. Though to be brutally honest, this thing works WAY better, but a butane iron may be a lot more convenient for use in a car. Most cheap butane irons don't last forever, but for a few quickie car jobs they tend to be my go to since they're "cordless" and cheap. Also depending on how much slack and location you might consider getting a pair of pliers for soldering, I have some version of these cheapies from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Camrusic-S...121&sr=8-5

Awesome, thank you! I ended up getting the Penecil because I will also solder at a bench from time to time. Got those pliers too and a Statik USB silicone cable as well.

As a total noob, what all else is needed to actually solder electronics? Additional tips, flux, and flux sucker?
I started to solder just last week (Logitech mouse repair), and here's what I've found essential and what's helpful. I asked a pro on the topic before I bought stuff.
The kit, others linked, has most of what you need.
Helping Hands is almost required, so you can elevate the board and not burn things underneath.
A solder Sucker / wick is needed if you de-solder, eg removing solder. The trick is to first add enough solder so the blob can be molten for a bit while exposed to air, then suck it out / wiggle pins out. Extra solder is ok and can be wicked out readily.
A plastic board (I used a giant Tupperware lid) to put on top of a desk is helpful. Prevents burns on desk.
Flux is very useful for adding solder. Some solder has it built in, but I was told to just add some (toothpick works).
A brass wool/ wet sponge for cleaning the tip is helpful.
A small fan blowing the fumes away from you is helpful, but not critical.
Solder does vary. Some have flux built in to help stick better. Some is leaded that melts easier. As a beginner, was told lead is easier to start.
Pinecil solder shows the temperature, which I found immensely helpful as a beginner. Otherwise, can't tell if iron is too hot or not enough.
Best of luck in your journey.
