I should have clarified. For the spring application, you should apply before the soil temps reach 55 degrees for roughly 5 days.

You can enter your zip code to see the recent soil temps along with the trends.

Note, areas that get more sun or are near concrete or brick might warm up faster than other areas. So you're better to do it a little earlier than too late.

This is a good deal. People should be putting this product down within the next 3-4 weeks around most of the country to minimize the amount of crabgrass popping up in the summer.

$20 of this product now will save countless hours and $ later trying to remove crabgrass.

It is the ground temperature you want to watch for - like 55 or so.

Pre-emergents should be applied at least twice a year. As previously mentioned, they should be applied in the spring before the ground temperature reaches 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Then it should be applied again in the early fall after temperatures begin to come down.

Good post on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/lawncare...d_to_know/

But don't put this down if you are going to put down grass seed! If you do, then the seeds won't grow - the pre-emergent prevents their growth. If you have green like I do in my lawn (poa annua in my bermuda grass in NC), I will spray the bad boys with Roundup at this point - I won't have green grass until mid-May. Also check with your extension agent or your local ag school - they will have some good opinions.

Something like Ortho Weed B Gon, which is sold in box box stores and Amazon, would be good. Make sure the label indicates that it controls clover.

The consumer products at big box stores aren't as powerful as the professional-level herbicides, so it might take 2-3 applications spaced out over a few weeks to fully get rid of the clover.

Needed this. Shame I had to buy 8 bags but I did the math and it comes out cheaper than a comparable product at BJ's, which is $87 for 16k sq ft ($5.44/1ksqft; this deal is about $4/1ksqft but admittedly does not contain fertilizer)

Always prefer the pre-emergent separate from fertilizer like this. The last thing I want in the spring is a synthetic fertilizer. Way too much early green up and I'm mowing 2-3 times a week to keep up with it.

for southern states it may be too late for a preemergent. I have a yard full of weeds already.but I still put down the "real" preemergent yesterday from SuperSod. Hopefully it will kill the late blooming weeds and stifle the growing ones.

or for fescue lawns

Note this is a 50 pound bag above from SuperSod versus Amazon 10 pound bag so compare shop ingredients!

It's crazy, so early here in central Texas. My Bermuda is still dormant and the weeds are already out of control. And this is the first time I did winter pre-emergent

Nice deal, thanks for sharing OP. I used this last year and had great results compared to the previous year when I didn't use it.

it was $12 couple years back. i wish its cheaper. need this for crabgrass control.
but the timing of apply this is important. if you miss the window, either too early or later, it does not do well.
