This is the best Pokémon game of this console generation.
I have a steam deck and do plenty of emulation. I just don't feel the need to get on a soap box on a deal site to spread some agenda.
And it's called preservation when the company is no longer providing a means to play the game. Not while it's simultaneously being sold.
The amount of pointless dialogue you have to sit through at the start of this game is absolutely insane. It's literally a solid hour of pressing A.

Fun game as far as current gen Pokémon games are concerned, and this is about as good a price as you can expect for digital. I have the cartridge, and I'm tempted to get digital for convenience in a multi-Switch household, but I'm more thinking I will legally dump my cart (on my softmodded Switch) and legally play this in Yuzu or Ryujinx.

Art style is great, but would be nice to enhance graphics / performance via PC mods, and to have more control over my save file. The save file doesn't get saved to the cloud, so if you lose/break your Switch your save file is gone. No good reason for that because there is no online combat like other games so save scumming or whatever doesn't really matter. The online features of this game are pretty minimal and unnecessary.

I would've probably jumped on this had Nintendo not sued Yuzu devs. I often double-dip and sometimes triple-dip (e.g. I own BOTW Switch digital/physical and a Wii U disc), but their actions are making want to scale back my Nintendo spending. Not that it'd make a difference.

Lol I guess we should expect to see yuzu defenders in every switch deal from now on.

Anyway pretty solid pokemon game. Even for people that haven't touched pokemon in years. Hope the newly announced Pokemon Legends Z-A is just as good.

Get a Steam Deck and play the entire Nintendo Switch catalog, via emulators. Even games super expensive that otherwise no one would be able to play and enjoy. It's called preservation.

A lot of Switch games from 2017 and 2018 are not being printed anymore and the aftermarket has prices going insanely high for those, that is preservation.

Not a high bar. The Pokemon Company/Gamefreak has been churning out shit for the past few generations shifting priorities to 3D graphics and shitty gimmicks but still managing to do it all poorly in barely finished forms only to sell more DLCs. This game was decent by comparison but still wasn't and isn't that well optimized compared to Zelda BotW and TotK.

Agreed. While it is the best and a breath of fresh air, it's still pretty un-noteworthy and a showcase of how lazy Game Freak are. But I can't put all the blame on them, since they only own 1/3 of the Pokemon brand. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company push these near-yearly releases, and the quality has greatly suffered because of it over the past 10 years.

I think HeartGold/SoulSilver were the pinnacle of the series; so much polish and detail went into those remakes. But the switch to 3D with XY was just something Game Freak didn't have experience with, and it shows to this day with Scarlet/Violet.

The physicals all seem to be from Japan. Would a physical work in my US switch and would it be in English?

I prefer the physical copy of the game but not if its different that the US digital

This was a good game in a sea of really bad pokemon games on the switch.

I would recommend borrowing it from a friend tho unless you want to shiny hunt forever. Once you get through the story mode and "complete" the dex that's really all that's left to do. But that'll take you maybe 30 hours.

Lol I almost didn't mention the lawsuit in my comment, but it is pretty relevant since it drives purchasing decisions.
