  • automated resistance feedback through Bluetooth connection to fitness app
  • 4-way adjustable design (Seat up/down, handlebars fore/aft + up/down)
  • 2-way pedals (SPD compatible clips + adjustable toe cage)
  • 2x water bottle holders
  • 2x 2lb dumbell weight holders (weights not included)
  • device charging
  • bullhorn handlebar design
This bike is sold by Echelon for $1,300 + shipping: https://echelonfit.com/products/e...cial-offer

Some good reviews of this bike are:
https://www.garagegymreviews.com/...ike-review
https://barbend.com/echelon-conne...ke-review/

This is considered a BYOD bike (bring your own device). The benefits of a BYOD bike is that many of the touchscreen displays that are connected to modern bikes often use outdated OS, are slow and laggy and are one of the first components to malfunction. Unfortunately Echelon (like a lot of other bike companies) only offers a 1 year warrranty on their displays. By using your own display (phone/tablet) you greatly reduce the risk of your bike becomeing a huge paperweight b/c the display dies. This also allows owners to watch whatever they want (Netflix/Amazon Prime/Disney, etc) using their own device. Most fitness bikes do not allow you to use the bike outside of the fitness app that is preinstalled on their screens.

Although this bike is designed to only work with Echelon's fitness app which is installed onto the owner's device some brillant software engineeers have created an app that allows you to use this bike with a number of different fitness apps (Peleton, Zwift to name a couple) and still capture necessary bike feedback like resistance, cadence and heartrate. More info about that can be found here:
https://www.qzfitness.com/?_sm_au...cvK33j01H3

This is a low cost BYOD bike that allows you to use it with multiple bike fitness apps and also allow you to stream whatever media content you'd like. Though Echeolon sells more expensive bikes, with the software/hardware hacks currently available, I think this is the best bike that Echeolon sells.

Some users have complained about the comfort of the seat that this bike comes with. Here's a good alternative seat that is wider and more comfortable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BH2X...b_ap_share

The EX3 is $430, and (even though I got the EX5 at $565) I probably would buy the EX3 if I did it again, knowing what I know now.

The main differences between 3 and 5 are the water bottle cage, the fact that the 5 has moveable handlebars, the tablet holder is slightly more flexible, and ... that's about it. Importantly, the electronics and motor drive mechanism are the same: the 3 and 5 both allow *an app* (QZ or Echelon's app) to manage the resistance for you.

So if you're cycling in Paris in the app and you hit a hill, the app can manage resistance on the bike. The lower-end "Sport" bikes (and EX15 for Walmart) don't offer this. This feature is a big deal presently, because it makes using apps with the bike automatic/transparent/better.

https://www.reddit.com/r/go_echel...t_are_the/ has more commentary on the differences.

Thanks for posting. The handlebars seems to be the significant driver between choosing between the EX-3 and the EX-5. The EX-5 use the upgraded Echelon handlebar design which is used on their higher tiered bikes. Not only do these handlebars have more hand resting/grasping points vs. the EX-3, but they are also adjustable (you can move the handlebars forward and back). The lower handlebar location, which is the main resting spot for hands/forearms is also not as thick suppossedly making it more ergonomic for holding onto or resting your forearms (at least this is what one video review blog noted about these handlebars).

In terms of phone/tablet mounting. The EX-3 may be preferred if you want to be able to flip it to watch other exercise content (stretching, yoga, etc). The EX-5's mount does not flip. The tablet/phone is mounted higher with the EX-5 vs. the EX-3 which may be perferable over longer rides if you have neck pain.

For me, the most important difference is that there is a third party solution (Etsy) for adding a VESA mount to the EX-5. I haven't noted this to be the case for the EX-3. Adding a VESA mount to the bike allows you to add any size monitor you want to the EX-5 (I'll be adding a 18" touchscreen to my EX-5). This is the #1 reason why I went with the EX-5 as the monitors that Echelon ships their upper tier bikes with use laggy software with a skin on top of an extremely outdated version of Android (OS 9) and you are stuck inside the Echelon ecosystem. I wanted a monitor solution that would use any OS I wanted, was higher quality (resolution/refresh rate) and could be easily and cheaply replaced if/when necessary. This also allows me to use various work out apps with the Echelon bike like Peleton, JRNEY, Zwift, etc.

I have an old iPad Pro 12" I use for the tablet bit, with QZ on it, and I (plan to) use a TV for the main screen; to me that's a better solution / I like the full projector screen. We'll see...

Which touchscreen are you adding? I have EX-5S so it comes with one but I don't like it given the reasons you mentioned.

This (and links on this page) may help (a little; still stuck with old Android)

I'll be using the following monitor (still waiting for delivery):
UPerfect USteam E6 Pro: https://www.uperfectmonitor.com/p...80-monitor

It's a gaming touchscreen (10-points) monitor that uses USB-C for input (rather than HDMI/DP). Here's a review video of the monitor:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0NqH3QCv8c

I plan to use a Samsung phone that is DEX compatible which will provide a desktop Android OS environment on the monitor. Therefore the OS will be coming from the phone rather than the monitor (which is typical of all Echelon monitors). Therefore as long as your phone is getting updates, you'll always have the latest Android OS being available when using your bike. You can see the advantages of DEX here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=825w97d8yE0

The issues you might run into with the EX5-s is removing and attaching a new monitor. I'm using a third party product that adds a VESA mount to my EX-5 (https://www.etsy.com/listing/1445...ount-for). I'm not sure if there are any mounting options that allow EX5-s owners to remove and upgrade their monitor.

That would work too. I'm assuming you'll be using AirPlay to mirror your iPad screen to the TV?

I'm still playing around with things. I have my Echelon membership to burn through before I spend much more time playing with other choices, and there's no AppleTV for that, so once I get the Echelon app figured out (on the iPad) I'll throw it to the projector via AirPlay.

Good deal. I finally got my EX-5 all set up with the touchscreen monitor receiving DEX desktop video from my phone. So far things are working great and I'm enjoying having access to whichever exercise program I want, plus an streaming app through my touchscreen monitor. I can also make and place calls, read text messages and emails directly on the touchscreen monitor. Initally I was thinking I'd need to also add BT speakers since the monitor speakers were so small (1W speakers), but even with my fans on I have no issues hearing the audio from the monitor's speakers which was a pleasant surprise.
