These drawer air fryers only seem to cook faster because they hold much less food. In my experience, the ovens are at least as fast, if not faster. Not having to pause and flip food also saves a bit of time, especially if you're elsewhere doing something else. And of course, being able to cook so much food in one batch saves a lot of time. A single oven tray holds 2-3x the food of a basket. I often have two trays cooking simultaneously (my oven allows up to 4 trays, which makes a huge difference especially when dehydrating).
The critical part of an air fryer is the fan, not just the heating elements. In bucket fryers, the fan blows down on all of the food. In an oven (at least the one I have), the fan is on the right side, so hot air may not hit some food, so flipping/rearranging may be needed. Also, there is a lot more air to heat in an oven-style air fryer, so I perceive cooking to take longer. They don't seem to brown as well because the fan needs to push so much more air. Each style has use cases (I use both), but, as I said initially, buckets seem to be more efficient with smaller items.
