Then after going in for a nail, I get the story of "oh the tire is close to worn out...so we cant repair it". I had to have the manager get them to show me the measurement, and it was a hair more than 3/32" in the worst spot - which IS close, but not 2/32" or less which is the "official" tread depth at which you cannot do a repair. Then the next story of "oh its a little outside of the center of the tread so we cant patch it either".
Sick and tired of them at this point.
Complete and utter waste of my time.
Additionally, you still need to make appointments for basically everything. So, let's assume you have a flat tire, and the next available appointment is usually in the next 1-2 weeks at best. What are you going to do with your car? Are you just going to stop driving it for weeks because you want to use that warranty for free repair?
Besides the warranty, Costco still does a good job with their easy booking system and professional tire installation. They always torque lug nuts to spec instead of just 'ugga dugga'. Also, employees don't ask for tips when you try to pick up the car.

They take appointments, but also take walk-ins. So I've never had to wait more than a day to get it done. Although if you do a walk-in on a busy day, you might have to wait a couple of hours.

The warranty (road hazard) are also generally more costly (but often optional... so you can decline it, vs with Costco's the warranty is "Free"-ish).
Let's assume they match the total installed cost, you may find that they will discover issues with our car's suspension, brakes, etc that should be repaired now or they can't honor tire warranty or alignment. And maybe that's valid, but many shops are incentivized to find things wrong so it's difficult for the average consumer to know for sure. You can tell them you are going to go to your mechanic and have them check it out and that's often a decent workaround but now you are going to another place for something you may or may not need. Better safe than sorry.
Costco doesn't do those repairs so you may not know something is wrong and that is also a concern. It is also an issue because they do not do Alignments (or at least they didn't last time I was there). You should go to a place to get alignment done after changing tires and that's another 2-3hrs of your day lost with driving back/forth or waiting in the shop.
All that to say, I'd recommend finding a trusted mechanic/shop and have them do your repairs. Have them check out your car and if they sell / install tires get them done from them, but if not, ask them who they recommend you go to in your area. Then you can just get the tires done and not have any surprises.

Also if you're getting regular oil changes every 5k-7k anyway, that should align with their rotation schedule. Most shops rotate them for free with the oil change.
