Free rider are more comfortable by a decent margin but trail cross look nicer but are still comfortable
I wear 11 in free rider but 11.5 in trail cross for cycling

Damn, my Shimanos aren't in terrible shape but for thirty bucks...anyone know how good the "walk mode" is on these? I primary MTB shoes rather than road ones because I prefer to walk like a man and not a duck between the bike and house.

These are for flat pedals. Walking in the is like walking in mildly-stiff sneakers

FWIW, I have these and the Freerider Pro. These are narrow so I had to size up a half size, but they're pretty comfy-ish for a narrow shoe, work well off the bike, have great ventilation, and the protection I'd say is in between the regular freerider canvas shoes and the freerider pro. They have a moderately stiff sole so if you're prone to hitting your toes, you'll probably be fine. Not a lot of side protection for the inner and outer balls of the feet.

The freerider pros are a bit wider, a bit heavier, don't breathe as well but they're built like a tank and comfortable if you get the right size.

I use these for the "workout" rides or hot weather rides, and the freerider pros for bike parks or rock garden riding for the extra protection.
