Just food for thought on coolers. I have the Yeti 48 Roadie and it has wheels. If you're new to these coolers I suggest going to the store to see the relative size for the volume you want to purchase (pretty comparable across brands). They are super heavy when filled and I know my back would give out trying to lift it so wheels are a must for me and family. This is a great price but without wheels it's a deal breaker.

Cooler? That looks like waterproof ammunition storage to me.

As with all the Pelican coolers, lots of complaints in the reviews about the drain leaking and the seal in the lid having a gap in it. If you order, might be a good idea as soon as you get it to take apart that drain and seal around it inside and out with some silicone.

If that's what you want then go to Home Depot and get one of the gasketed Husky storage boxes.

Yeah, they might keep ice slightly longer. But at 3 times the cost
An igloo marine or an igloo max cool can keep ice for nearly as long, cost 1/3rd as much, and are far lighter.

Unless your specific use case needs ice for 5 days OR you need the thing to be used as a chair(like on a boat), I just dont see much reason for this. Might as well just save your money. Or are you going on week long camping excursions regularly?
Exactly this. We had a party and I filled a large Igloo from Costco (with wheels) with drinks and then ice on top. I kept grabbing cold drinks from it for 3 more days, and on the fourth day it has probably a pound of ice left in it and the drinks were still cold

My point was that rotomolded coolers dont inherently work better than regular coolers. If you used a pelican case as an ice chest, it wouldn't do well despite being rotomolded.

If you made a traditional foam insulation cooler as thick as a rotomolded cooler, I actually think it would probably be a better insulator.
If you want the BMW of coolers, buy this: https://www.amazon.com/YETI-Stain...B0842BVBPP [amazon.com]
No way sir, there is only one BMW of coolers. only over priced BMW certified coolers can make it into my fully optioned out BMW 750i

They are actually super heavy when empty. Sticking with my light Coleman over these

Also if drinks are what you are storing..opening the lid all the time negates the usefulness of this..it's mostly for meat ect

same here, and ours is a walmart coleman one from 2002 lol. lid still maintains an excellent seal.
the key to all of this that so many forget, is to use a sacrificial bag of ice prior to the trip, to pre-cool the cooler. we do this the night before we leave.
then toss that, fill with new ice and your contents, and you're set for literally days

i totally get the need for products geared towards overlanding, expeditions, safaris, wilderness excursions, and the like. stuff gets beat to hell. and a lot of equipment like this has lifetime guarantees. and i know military uses a lot of pelican products.

for almost everyone deal hunting on SD though, this thing is complete and utter overkill. even if you use a cooler weekly on boating trips for fishing, those coleman/igloo marine ones are perfectly sufficient, and can be had for under $50. and the "XTreme" ones for even less.

And if you look, their cases aint cheap either. Even the chinese knockoffs aren't that cheap.
the popular go-to knock-off these days are those Apache ones at harbor freight. if you time it right with coupons, they are well worth the money considering the pelican version can be 5-7x the price. the pelican rolling cases commonly used as luggage are still king though, all knock-offs are trash....the knockoffs use inferior material and reinforcements, which they can get away with on the smaller cases. but when you step it up to the large ones, they can't hold up. the apache 5800 rolling cases can't even hold up reliably to repeated airline baggage handling

I agree completely, I bought a 65 quart OtterBox and unless you put it in the back of your truck or SUV and then fill it, it is way too heavy to move around. Looked into a wheel kit and the wheel kit was more than I paid for the cooler, so now it sits on the shelf most of the year and is only used for summer vacation or going camping when I can leave it in my vehicle.

If anyone wants to mod, I found this guy on Youtube a while ago who added a gasket for extra protection. Seems to work well.

I picked up the 14qt around this same time last year on sale from Adorama. It is extremely high quality and durable. Just placed an order for a 70qt in the same color way (tan/white). Looking forward to camping season.

These Pelican coolers are probably my least favorite high end coolers. The static handles make an already bulky cooler even more bulky. The drains also leak unless you take it all apart a silicon the crap out of it. Even if you don't see the leak right away it's often still leaking into the spotty foam in between the plastic causing it to be water logged and moldy. Polypropylene coolers are also harder to clean than most rotomolded coolers so cleaning pike on top made mine look like a crime scene. The latches are also annoying. End of review.

But even the Apache "carry on" size case is >$60 with discounts.
That was my point. Rotomolding is expensive. It has a lot of structural benefits, but it is expensive.

However, with regards to coolers, Both old-school coolers and rotomolded coolers use foam to achieve their insulation. However, the rotomolded coolers use a different type of plastic to encapsulate the foam which is thicker/heavier/stronger. From an ice storage perspective, there shouldn't be any difference between them performance wise if foam is equally thick

I''ve had my Pelican 70Q for about 7 years. The drain has never leaked. One of the latches did crack through (mainly my fault) but it still works fine.
The 70Q is super heavy when filled with ice and drinks. SUPER heavy. If I had my time back I might go with a cooler of the same size that had a different handle style. The solid handles on the Pelican make it cumbersome for one person to lift this cooler, even when empty.

But this cooler is very high quality - it will survive pretty much anything you can do to it. Mine tumbled about 30 feet down a steep incline full of ice and never even opened.
