You could probably use the portable charger in the car overnight if you can park near a receptacle since the island is small enough.

Cool deal. We're doing an ultra cheap four days in Oahu in two weeks and were planning on walking and bussing everywhere. I've also been wanting to drive an Ioniq, so win win if it goes through.

Horrible charging in Oahu. Don't get ANY EV including a Tesla. State passed a law forcing public places to have chargers. Didn't specify level of charging so all these places have level 1 chargers 🤦.
Only way to have an EV in Hawaii is to charge at home with your own charger.

It is sad to hear that charging infrastructure is terrible in Hawaii.
I would imagine that island conservation is a top priority. Being that it is a small island, the local gov't definitely should focus on getting the chargers rolled out throughout the island. With so many hotels, why would it be difficult to enforce it on them so that visitors can travel, leaving less carbon footprint? It all comes down to prioritization in infrastructure investment and perhaps there are things more urgent that we mainlanders are not privy to....hope that it does roll out soon.

Aren't these the things that are a nightmare in insurance coverage?

Bus system on Oahu is awesome. The island has an app you and you can track (most, if not all) of the busses by location. We did this to keep the price down, but it also saved us time since we didn't have to find parking. Just FYI look into the unlimited day pass it paid for itself (if they still have it).

I feel like a lot of car rental place been having "manager's special" on their EVs. Probably reflects how tourists feel about charging.

Agreed also noticed that when i rented twice in Florida when I was in Miami and Palm Beach. Avis and Hertz had low rates for EV at the time but it wasn't worth the hassle.

If you stay at Aulani they have something like a dozen or more J1772 chargers in the self parking area. We rented a Tesla Model 3 this winter and never had to charge anywhere else. Put about 500+ miles on the car in 7 days.

How much does it cost to replace an Ioniq battery?
The average cost for a Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid High Voltage Battery Replacement is between $5,465 and $5,522. Labor costs are estimated between $220 and $278 while parts are typically priced around $5,245. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your unique location.
Doesn't make the car any less incredible.
