Cool deal. We're doing an ultra cheap four days in Oahu in two weeks and were planning on walking and bussing everywhere. I've also been wanting to drive an Ioniq, so win win if it goes through.

Any recommendations or guides on that? Would love to visit again.

Charging infrastructure is horrible.

No kidding. Twice now I've rented PHEV, both new ~$80k cars (Jeeps) and thought.... hey lemme try and charge it some place just for the hell of it. Nope. PITA. The first rental was from DTW, obviously very large metro area. Surely there must be easy charging around, and MI touts a free charging program [michigan.org]. What a hassle. I want to rent a car and go, not spend time finding chargers, downloading apps, setting up accounts, hoping that the car accepts whatever charging interface, etc.

I cant imagine that Oahu is that much more complicated than Kauai and it was easy to use an EV there. I went up to see the Jurrasic Park falls and everything. I went through a nonprofit called Mission Zero and rented a low range car (Kia) and no real issue. As they reminded me it is a 6000lbs vehicle so offroading is prob not a good idea and there is a lot of that on the island. I am an experienced ev driver so that could have had an effect but I wouldnt worry unless you are exploring the north shore or something.

It is sad to hear that charging infrastructure is terrible in Hawaii.
I would imagine that island conservation is a top priority. Being that it is a small island, the local gov't definitely should focus on getting the chargers rolled out throughout the island. With so many hotels, why would it be difficult to enforce it on them so that visitors can travel, leaving less carbon footprint? It all comes down to prioritization in infrastructure investment and perhaps there are things more urgent that we mainlanders are not privy to....hope that it does roll out soon.
Hawaiians are just as stupid and shortsighted as everyone else. They mainly drive tacomas and tundras.

This thread is about Hawaii and Oahu in specific. No idea what it's like in detroit. Probably lots of charging options, though.

Anyone know how much these guys charge as their daily rate? Might pick this up instead of a Turo but only if the daily rate is low enough. Not worth swapping out cars either for 2 days.

sounds cheaper than an ICE engine. Just add up all the oil changes and the eventual engine rebuild/problems

Maybe it's so they can off road and get away from dumbass haoles that think Hawaii is their playground and end up drowning or needing rescue on hiking trails because they don't respect Hawaii 😂
