If you have access to Perks at Work, it's $1059 plus 12x points. Also, if you have the Amex Lenovo offer, it would take another $100 off. All stacked together, it seems a really sweet deal. Just bought this a few days ago but haven't opened yet.

EDIT: Still available, but down to 9x points for 5 star members
If you happen to be over 55+, you get an extra $60 off using ID.me. Pays for the 64GB upgrade! Verify at Checkout.
Read a 1 star review stating this has the same sleep/wake issue as the Gen 1 model had, guy had 3 replacements and same issue. Then there are 2 reviews about machines shipped without valid Windows OS keys. These AMD P16s seem cursed, they just clearanced out the Gen 1s at $758 on ebay and $808 on lenovos site. There's a general glut of these 'Power' models that can't sell through at standard sale prices.

The Thinkpad P16s is a very portable 16" laptop. I used to have it and can easily lift it with one hand to carry from my desk to the sofa or wherever and it rests comfortably on my lap. It also has a smaller charger than the Legion's massive charging brick. It also has the better screen (OLED) and has the trackpoint, which for me is huge bc it eliminates the need for a mouse as I don't like using a touchpad.

The Legion 5 Pro is a heavy machine relative to the P16s, although it is actually pretty streamlined and not especially heavy for a 16" gaming machine. But I would not call it a very portable machine. It's fine for carrying from point A to point B in a laptop, but working with it on your lap is very uncomfortable and carrying it from the desk to the sofa takes effort (both hands unless you are pretty strong guy).

If you want gaming / graphics capability and a lighter/sleeker form factor, check out the Legion Slim 7 (now called the Legion 7 in 2024). It's slimmer and lighter than the Legion 5 Pro but has almost the same performance capabilities.
This person probably shouldn't pay the premium for this gorgeous screen if they're not specifically looking for an OLED it will be wasted on them and is a fairly large chunk of the cost. I've been all in on OLED for a long time and can never go back. My daily driver for work as a coder is an OLED tv since I couldn't convince work to get me the OLED laptop screen I keep it docked for 99% of my work.

obviously one with RTX 4070 would be infinitely faster than one without (780M is about half of laptop 3050 , which is a very slow card in the world of dGPU). but let me say this:

i once bought a thinkpad with 3080 GPU, thinking about using that for some gaming. That laptop had a total number of maybe 50 hours before collecting dust. the noise is unbearable if you push anywhere near the power limit (both cpu or gpu). I ended up building a silent small form factor PC instead. keep in mind i intended to use that laptop as a stationary PC to begin with, and i was sitting 6 ft away from where it is located. The fact that they required none USB C power delivery, and weights 8 lbs didn't even bother me, yet i still felt the need to replace it as soon as desktop graphic card was close to a reasonable price.

i suppose what i want to say is this: never under estimate the noise of those gaming laptops. since it is unlikely you will be gaming on the go, why not get a thin and light PC, and maybe a TB4 external graphic box, or one of those H99 mini PC with good mobile GPUs instead?

Love having this P16s, but be forewarned -- "Thunder black" case isn't black. It's more of a charcoal grey. Everything else is perfect!

Be sure to use code WSDEAL8 to get the price down to $1189, and maybe a little more if you qualify for senior or student via id.me.

Right, but this was posted almost 2 months ago. The Wow points change frequently. Currently 4x for base and 6x for 5 star members.

Can somebody verify this particular model only has one SSD slot? A second SSD is a hard requirement for me, but otherwise it looks great.
