Ryzen 7840U is one of the best mobile processors on the market - best mix of performance and efficiency - plus it comes with the best integrated graphics card. You can't go wrong here - only thing would be if you need more cores for virtualization or maybe some of the Intel features for video editing.

Agreed, but this particular model is not the best in a market IMHO.
I tried it and returned back:

- The display matrix has something like matte film in a middle and it disturbs my eyes a lot
- The fan noise is way more than I was expected for the AMD "U" series (perf mode). The noise itself has a lot of mid-range freq, it is annoying.

Overall, I like my Lenovo T490 with the replaced display. It is slower, but the keyboard is one of the best, and I cannot hear fan noise 90% of time.

You're going to be looking a while. 15-inch laptops have disappeared except for some cheapo models. No current ThinkPads have 15-inch screens AFAIK.

This is a pretty good deal based on the prices I was seeing on ebay for 2-3 year old ones whose warranties were all but dried up.

Lenovo needs to get with the times and have thin bezels
Have you seen the new T14 that was announced this week? Much smaller bezels.

Can this drive multiple monitors, with at least one at 4k? In general, does having a discrete graphics card make a difference for that?

Does 2.8K resolution on a 14" laptop screen make things too hard to see? Won't it make everything very tiny? I think I would prefer a 1920x1200 resolution instead so things appear on the screen at a more reasonable size. And it seems a 2.8k resolution and OLED will both contribute to using a lot of battery power. I'm wondering if there's such a large advertised discount because the more expensive display is actually a drawback for most people so that these don't sell as well.

Windows has properly supported high dpi screens for years; it makes everything bigger to account for the higher resolution, so everything is the same physical size, just much clearer and sharper due to the smaller individual pixels. Occasionally you'll run into an old application that is broken, but you can change the settings on a per-application basis so it'll still be the right size, just a little blurry due to the scaling.

Oh ok. But does a 2.8K resolution on a 14" screen really make things much clear than 1920x1200? Does it depend on the application? For general web browsing, I wonder if 2.8K would really make much of a practical difference. Also, I've never had an OLED display so I'm wondering does this really make much of a practical difference compared to IPS.

OLED is generally considered higher end relative to IPS. You get deeper blacks and the best contrast and color accuracy with the trade-off of a slightly higher risk of screen burn-in, but that was more of a problem with earlier generation OLED panels.

This resolution will provide great PPI for this screen size.

Isn't the 52 Whr battery small compared to generally available 70Whr or higher? Just asking

So does it mean not exactly well suited for running 1 or 2 Virtual Machines despite the RAM ?
