I think I'm going to cancel my account within 3 days of ordering as it's not exactly clear to me when a line is activated. I ordered two in one transaction at BB before noon on Sunday. BB now shows a FedEX label created for one but still plain packaging for the other (both with an expected delivery date by 3/11). I've set up an account with AT&T and it shows one line, which I assume is for the phone for which BB has created a shipping label. The number is still active on Google - my guess is that porting won't actually happen until I insert the sim into the device.

For porting, do we have to insert the sim before cancelling? The old number still have a lot of minutes and if possilble would save the number without porting.

There are different types of activation when you open a new ATT account for this phone.

1. ATT account creation and activation: This happens when you place the order. You should complete this step and setup account/passcode etc,

2. Line activation: This happens right before shipping when a person from BB creates the line for you with an ATT SIM.

3. Phone activation: You don't need to do this for this phone as it's already unlocked. Otherwise, when you get the phone you will put the SIM to activate and register it in the network with the phone number.

I don't know this for sure but this is my understanding of how the system works. Feel free to correct if you know otherwise.

You cancellation window starts when step 2 happens.

Nope, you don't need to do it for porting to complete. You can check ATT.com/portstatus to check. If the porting is stuck technically the line is not active so cancelling that should be fine but you want to verify it with CS

Thanks. checked porting and it says:
Your former service provider says that xxx.xxx.xxxx has number transfer protection.
Contact your former service provider to have the protection removed. Then, come back here and try to transfer your number again.

So it seems porting stuck? Will try to chat to close ATT account.

If you need to make the porting work for some reason you will need to unlock your GV number with $3 (assuming that's what you are using here) but check if you can just cancel the line so the number does not need to port in the first place.

Today it was second day already for me so I go ahead and canceled the lines on ATT and will wait for Bestbuy, it it ships then good.. .if not then it is good too.. but cannot risk 95 * 2 = 190 for this phone..

Hope this helps someone.. (MY PHONES ARE STUCK IN PREPARING FOR SHIPPING+ BOTH LINES SHOWING IN THE ATT ACCOUNT SINCE DAY ONE.. )

Same here, but I have only 1 phone delivered. I can't activate it because the main line is the one that got activated and that phone is delayed.

edit: logged out and login back and number disappeared, also when clicking on the payment tab, it says no active service.
Hmm, this is what i see when i click payments tab "This account is canceled. No further payments are needed."

Why do you have to activate the device, it's unlocked and used with any other sim ? , am I missing something 🤔

I'm someone who cancelled ATT before the package was shipped. Just got confirmation FedEX has the package and will be arriving tomorrow.
