I'm attaching the SMART data from the one I bought on Feb 20th. It doesn't look like they clear the SMART data as another commenter suggested.
Edit - I contacted the seller and asked if they'd price-match since I'm still within the return period. If they say no I'll drop it, but I figured it didn't hurt to send an email and ask.
Edit2- They responded a couple of hours later with the following message:

Yeah, it's essentially used and the only refurbishing was probably them clearing SMART and running a format on the drive but get over it or move along.
Yes, it's a large drive and you might lose data but how is that different from normal, have backups and ideally this should be part of some sort of array with parity or similar uptime protection.
The only potential "negative" is that since this is a smaller drive at 12TB, you're more likely to get an older vintage with some more miles on the tires vs buying a similar enterprise refurb 18TB drive for example. The larger drives just haven't been around as long so they're generally not as well traveled as their smaller and potentially older counterparts.
Still, nice price.
Edit - According to the HC520 family data sheet, this E601 model is the "512e SATA 6Gb/s" variant.

I've had external enclosures that said 4tb was max but easily took 8tb drives.

The old main drive in the computer is 160gb and shows a count of 11 reallocated sectors. I've got that backed up in multiple places.
But should I use the questionable drives and regularly back them up in hopes they die within the 5 year warranty or is there a good free program to test them thoroughly?
