I'm going to get downvoted by people who can't afford the Quest 3 and want to cope but I wanted to give some helpful advice.

I own both the quest 2 and the quest 3, and wanted to give some insight into people who are on the fence.

The Quest 3, while being $499, is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over the Quest 2.

-The quest 3 has a huge resolution bump over the quest 2. Honestly the quest 2 is pretty blurry and feels like a budget headset. There's significant screen door effect (you can see the pixels and looks like you are staring through a screen door while the quest 3 eliminates this problem). Not only this but the new lenses makes the image sharp all the way through while the quest 2 feels blurry depending on where you look.

-The quest 3 is much more comfortable to wear because of better weight distribution. This is huge when you plan to play for more than 20-30 minutes because the two gives a lot of fatigue because of the weird weight distribution.

-The 3 uses a new set of lenses called pancake lenses which greatly increase the field of view from 95 degrees to 110 degrees. This makes it much more immersive and life like. In the quest 2, you can very easily see the edges of the image which is immersion breaking.

-The quest 3 has more accurate tracking and allows you to use mixed reality/augmented reality because of the pass through cameras in the front. The quest 2 does not allow this. This is very important when you want to be able to see your surroundings without having to take your headset off. It also makes the head set more future proof.

-I used the mixed reality on my quest 3 to learn piano. The piano notes came
Down like in guitar hero on my
Own piano in real time. It was an amazing feature that greatly expanded the capabilities past just gaming.

Honestly, unless you are an extreme casual, I would pass on the quest 2 even at this price. If you just plan to vary occasionally use it then go for it but otherwise, I would say that the quest 3 is definitely worth the money and this is coming from someone who loves to save money. To be honest, it's pretty surprising just how much Meta upgraded the headset over their previous iteration. It feels like a next gen product now and is by far the best value on the market. The Quest 2 never made me feel that way even when it was new.

I've had my quest 2 since 2021, paid $250, and used it maybe 10 times total. For what I paid, I'm not so bothered.

I love the idea of VR, but in practice, it's just a neat toy that's cumbersome to use and gets boring quick. This is my opinion though, and I understand fully, that some folks live and die by VR, but these people are the exception, not the rule. I have five or six friends that also have VR headsets (mostly quest 2), and only one of them use it consistently.

I understand the quest 3 is fairly more advanced but doubt it would lead me to using it any extra, I if I paid double, I'd be very disappointed.

Would agree. I have 2 Quest 2s and I'm holding out for the 3 to drop a tad more to upgrade at least 1 of mine. If you like the latest and greatest (like I do) spring for the quest 3. The monochrome pass through and degraded graphical fidelity drives me absolutely nuts on the Quest 2. I would only recommend purchasing the 2 if you are on a strict budget or don't care about the improvements the 3 offers.

Questions about Quest 2 or 3:

1. Am I able to take office zoom calls, make WhatsApp audio/video calls using this?

2. I code and use two monitors for office work. Am I able to connect my monitors to this and code/slack/Outlook without needing to look at my physical monitors?

(I am expecting too much, am I not?)
+1 I'd like to learn how quest 2/3 are for productivity. Playing games all day doesn't really appeal to me that much

This is what I paid for a refurb last June. If you want to play and this is the most you can imagine spending I would say it's not a bad deal, though like all consoles it's just a gateway to spending more money.

If I was willing to spend $500 I'd unquestionably buy a 3 instead. Personally I didn't find it got a lot of use but for me that's more about the fact that putting it on shuts me off from the rest of the family. If I didn't have a spouse and kids I would have used it a lot more. Games like beat saber and the different shooting games are a lot of fun.

I have a quest 2 and I use it for only one game. ElevenVR, a table tennis simulator. If you like table tennis and want to play a multiplayer focused simulator, it's such a great game. I never have to pick a ball up for anyone, and I can find a match with someone any time of day.

That being said, there are a lot of controller adaptors out there specialized for specific games. I have a table tennis adaptor that allows me to hold the controller like a table tennis paddle so the simulator feels more like table tennis that way. Made a lot about the game really fun. There's adaptors for golf, shooting games, fishing simulators…but usually additional investment is necessary for better immersion into the VR.

The Quest 3 is a *massive* upgrade based on the pancake lenses alone. Add in the improved performance and the mixed reality enabled by its passthrough and it's worth the price over the Quest 2. But I refuse to buy one ATM because Zuckerberg decided to repeat the Quest 2 storage shenanigans. 128GB of non-expandable storage for a game console released in 2023 is a joke, especially when you realize those improved visuals will come with increased install sizes. I'll wait for them to double the base storage amount in this one, just like they did with the quest 2 back in the day.

@Sonic04GT Even if you only had 90 day return window to return it, you said you got it 2 months ago, you'd still be able to return and buy this version IF they have it on hand and has it for that OP price. I know these discounts depends on local warehouses (ex-Costco membership/return dept employee).
What happens to Costco returns on something like this? I've always wondered the people that are returning something to save a few bucks to buy somewhere else, are they basically just creating a bunch of E-Waste and being selfish?

My PSVR was great but the games were not and very few.

I enjoyed it for a month and if it wasn't for beat Saber, it would have been back in the box at the end of that month.

VR just isn't there yet still but there are some great games but the investment to play those couple of games just isn't there yet.

At least the Quest doesn't take up a lot of console space.

Maybe I didn't make it clear enough; my advise was aimed at people who are on the fence and have the expendable income and from my experience, plenty of people on this site earn well into the six or even seven figure range and are just looking for good deals. That or there's just people who like to buy once cry once aka buy it for life. To those people, I truly think the Quest 3 is a better buy. Sometimes you have to look at the overall value of something rather than just raw price.

+50/-4 ... y'all really don't know how this forum works, huh? The vast majority of people don't down vote just because you have an opinion. Most people want to hear from others with direct experience of a product.
