I'm going to get downvoted by people who can't afford the Quest 3 and want to cope but I wanted to give some helpful advice.

I own both the quest 2 and the quest 3, and wanted to give some insight into people who are on the fence.

The Quest 3, while being $499, is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over the Quest 2.

-The quest 3 has a huge resolution bump over the quest 2. Honestly the quest 2 is pretty blurry and feels like a budget headset. There's significant screen door effect (you can see the pixels and looks like you are staring through a screen door while the quest 3 eliminates this problem). Not only this but the new lenses makes the image sharp all the way through while the quest 2 feels blurry depending on where you look.

-The quest 3 is much more comfortable to wear because of better weight distribution. This is huge when you plan to play for more than 20-30 minutes because the two gives a lot of fatigue because of the weird weight distribution.

-The 3 uses a new set of lenses called pancake lenses which greatly increase the field of view from 95 degrees to 110 degrees. This makes it much more immersive and life like. In the quest 2, you can very easily see the edges of the image which is immersion breaking.

-The quest 3 has more accurate tracking and allows you to use mixed reality/augmented reality because of the pass through cameras in the front. The quest 2 does not allow this. This is very important when you want to be able to see your surroundings without having to take your headset off. It also makes the head set more future proof.

-I used the mixed reality on my quest 3 to learn piano. The piano notes came
Down like in guitar hero on my
Own piano in real time. It was an amazing feature that greatly expanded the capabilities past just gaming.

Honestly, unless you are an extreme casual, I would pass on the quest 2 even at this price. If you just plan to vary occasionally use it then go for it but otherwise, I would say that the quest 3 is definitely worth the money and this is coming from someone who loves to save money. To be honest, it's pretty surprising just how much Meta upgraded the headset over their previous iteration. It feels like a next gen product now and is by far the best value on the market. The Quest 2 never made me feel that way even when it was new.
I've had my quest 2 since 2021, paid $250, and used it maybe 10 times total. For what I paid, I'm not so bothered.

I love the idea of VR, but in practice, it's just a neat toy that's cumbersome to use and gets boring quick. This is my opinion though, and I understand fully, that some folks live and die by VR, but these people are the exception, not the rule. I have five or six friends that also have VR headsets (mostly quest 2), and only one of them use it consistently.

I understand the quest 3 is fairly more advanced but doubt it would lead me to using it any extra, I if I paid double, I'd be very disappointed.
Meta Quest 3 is $499.99 😒

The quest 3 is pretty bulky and uncomfortable for playing games for anything past 15 minutes. Also, i dont know about now but in 2022 when I had it, there weren't too many games available.
bro the quest 3 came out about a half year ago, what are you talking about

Double tap quest 2 on the right hand side gets you passthrough functionality

Several games already has mixed reality and is available in quest 2 already

Games needs to be recompiled to support higher resolution of quest 3... For most games as of now, graphics is same

Quest 3 is nice.. But at it's current price, it's a bit too much to pay for not much better functionality.

Really hoping the 3 comes down in price through. The pass-through features alone are worth it imo.

Just double tap your quest 2 on right side to access passthrough functionality

It's not in color but it works fine for most part

Check out Facebook marketplace, Nextdoor, OfferUp… there are 20 around me right now for $100 or so. Families are offloading these left and right.
All I see are people pushing them for $200. I don't ever find deals. If I'm going to spend $200 I'll buy it new for the same price.

While that may be true, the Quest 2 doesn't allow for mixed reality which is the main point I wanted to make. It is hardly usable tbh. The mixed reality really sets the Quest 3 apart and it can compete with something like the Apple Vision Pro in that regard. As I mentioned previously, I learned how to play piano by using the Quest 3 which to me alone warrants the price difference. The Quest 2 is extremely limited in the scope of its usage to just games.

Got the quest 2 from work about a year ago. Used it like 5 times. As another poster said it's cumbersome.

It will come down in price considering the sales numbers aren't as good as Meta had projected. I don't know what the Quest 4 will bring but I can see the Quest 3 being a great buy when the 4 eventually replaces it. I can't say the same for the Quest 2 as it feels very limited in its usage. Look at all the people in this thread saying they used it a few times then never touched it again; I truly believe that mixed reality is what has given the Quest 3 much longer life. I can use it to do so many tasks around the house and learn skills that I wouldn't be able to with the Quest 2.

I am sure the quest 3 is a substantial upgrade, but it's a hard sell. I checked, and the 3 doesn't have a 256, but it does have a 512 and that retails for $650. The official case is $70. That's $720 for the higher storage version, versus $200. Quest 2 vs 3 and 512 vs 256 gigs of storage for roughly 3 1/2 times the price.

Most of us are first timers with this just seeing if we like it. I bought golf+ and thought it was crazy, also feeling a bit off too. Unsure if it is because it was my first experience or if it would be consistent. For me, I wanted a low entry point. If it is a game changer in my life; I wait for Apple to come down in a couple generations.

Your feedback appreciated regardless

Logical response as well as real. Most people should/would agree that this is just the beginning of tech. Beta at most. I've used some before as a psychological tool to help phobias. It's elementary too. Eventually the "real" will come out.
