This apple laptop is $1000 more than the lower model (512 GB storage and 8 GB memory) when it is on sale like this. Whoever chooses to buy this product, let it sink in; you are paying $1000 minimum for a 1.5 TB SSD expansion and one 16 GB stick of ram (I know unified memory works better than regular RAM due to decreased latency between channels).
The suggestion to "get a pro" is a good recommendation. For the same price, you can have a significant enough performance uplift to justify getting the M3 processor that comes in the new pro models. The charts are clear when it comes to M2 vs M3 performance!
If storage space is ever an issue for your apple laptop, do not pay for cloud storage monthly or $600 for 1.5 TB, like Apple charges you. For the price of 1 year base cloud subscription ($120 over 12 month), you can buy an external SSD that will perform in the same ballpark, if not better!
Best of luck to all of you!
Anyway, MacBooks are insanely expensive I mean 2200 for a computer in 2024 Jesus.

There are many factors in choosing a laptop.. although I would agree your point in M2 vs M3 difference or getting a similar price range PRO model, yet people sometimes do consider the hassle of carrying an external ssd over an inbuilt (extra) storage by paying more. RAM, on the other hand, IMHO in MacBooks, is a topic of understanding the work one does… I have seen people getting away with basic 8 GB whereas for some even 24 or more is considered less.

With regards to the other posters saying it's overkill or to get a Pro, I think that at this price point that is a smarter decision. Not least of all because you'll have the RAM and storage but in the Air you won't have the CPU/GPU power that is available in the Pro. For that matter, this chip is passively cooled whereas the Pro at least has a fan.
But for some people, it's all about the form factor. I like the Air form factor, but I wouldn't buy one for my workhorse. Getting 16GB/256GB is plenty for my uses. Realistically I only need to store the OS and a few apps, everything else can be on cloud storage these days and available on demand.
I do think that Apple is doing themselves a bit of a disservice though. With every new Mac release they talk about how they're making gaming on a Mac even better, and that's true to an extent. But if you have to shell out $2000+ to get a GPU capable of playing AAA games at reasonable frame rates, gamers are going to continue to buy AMD/Intel. I don't think they have any plans to put more powerful GPUs in their less expensive systems, and until they do gaming will go nowhere on a Mac (outside of Arcade-type titles).
Anyway, MacBooks are insanely expensive I mean 2200 for a computer in 2024 Jesus.

I personally cannot understand how someone can pay $600 for some extra space over the $100 counterpart that may work at an equal or better level. External SSDs are great. They are lightweight, small and compact, allowing them to fit in almost any type of carrying case! Take the extra $500 and go buy a plane ticket to the Caribbean, or invest in your favorite stock. I just see that as a blatant waste of money.
End mini rant!
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate your humble feedback and definitely do agree with you! Workload determines what you buy, not the other way round. This is a very important point that sometimes gets lost when people are passionate about what they are speaking about. Thank you for reminding me of this!
Actually on that topic, right now I have the choice between getting a m1 air for 750, an m2 air 13" for 900, and a m2 air 15" for 1000$.
Any advice or recommendations? It's pretty hard to decide which one is the best
For example, if you're a photographer who travels, it would be great to be able to dump the RAW files to the internal storage, and the 24 GB RAM would make it easy to switch between your RAW editor and photo editor, which browsing 1,000 thumbnails.
