I think Step Ons are a great option for most resort riding. I'm an AASI certified instructor and wear them when I am teaching. They are super convenient and the current generation is really reliable.

I do not recommend them for

Very fast/aggressive/steep, expert level riding when responsiveness is paramount
Back/sidecountry, excessive loose snow can make them difficult to get in and out of
Park riding, particularly jibbing when you want a softer flex

The House has 20% off + 15% off if you get board and binding - but limited sizing and doesn't have that amazing REI return policy.

Most of the other Capita boards (not BSOD) are on sale at Backcountry with 20% off + extra 20% off in cart.

Capita boards go on heavy end of season sales every year. You can pick up most of their boards directly from them for 30-40% off.

Usually the BSOD sells out before the discount gets that high, 20% off is just about as good as it gets on that board.

Load up on an amazing board for next season. The Capita Black Snowboard of Death. 20% off. You may be able to find a better deal on it later, but the BSOD may sell out.

Yup, this board usually sells out. There seems to be some extra inventory on some of the popular Capita popular boards, including the Mega Merc. Curated.com has the BSOD at the same price, including the 156 in stock- https://www.curated.com/products/...?e=ian.s.1

Disclaimer- I do sales on Curated.com

What's the upgrade from $200-$300 boards? Edge? Camber? Weight?

I'm barely getting out of my groomer stage doing blues for context

Longer board for groomers, Play around with you foot stances to see what you like better, Longer board means you plow through chop much better, which is prevalent at the end of the day due to a lot of traffic. If you want to hold edges better get your board sharpened. I used to use the cheapest bindings i could find...and put money into the board. But man a nice set of bindings, changed my world. get one that wraps around your calves, felt it gave me more leverage for control of the board. Linked example bindings.
