Just curious why the thumbs down? I'm new to the world of NAS. Recently set my first one up with 12TB IronWolfs that cost me more than these 18TB ones. Naturally I'm tempted to bite. Should I stay clear of refurbs when it comes to this stuff?

It's manufacturer refurbished. You can probably find 18TB manufacturer refurb for much cheaper. I picked up 2 in Jan for 170 each from this same seller. There were promos with zippay to make them even cheaper.

Warranty wise, description says 5 years, but I believe that's on a new drive and not refurb. You would have to contact the seller to get warranty details.

That was my first take looking at this deal. Others opinions may differ.

You can get a brand new 18TB Seagate Exos X18 7200 RPM Enterprise Hard Drive @Newegg for $255 for comparison. Drives seem pretty similar to me unless I'm missing something.

The new drive comes with a 5 year warranty as well ergo when considering that the new drive is not much more than the refurbished; the "deal" for the refurbished is kind of $#itty IMO...

Every Seagate drive that I have ever owned failed within 5 years, and they failed in such a way that made the data completely unrecoverable. I will never use a Seagate drive ever again, even if they were free.
