Per Google's website, this model will receive updates until June 2030.

No, it is not. Chromebooks with 10th Gen Intel CPU do not meet the requirements for Chromebook Plus.

Very normal, especially for models built around Core-series CPUs aka performance/P-cores.

As a note for those interested in switching a performance flag on this device, the Hyperthreading functionality will be turned off for security reasons [chromium.org] but can be enabled easily [google.com].

Good luck!
Jon

I use an i5 Chromebook for work and gaming. No issues since I started using them in 2019

If not for dual core I would have bought this, but in Chromebooks is dual core normal? Is it a huge issue?
I use an MT8173C Chromebook that's showing its age, and the i3-10110U is probably 4x faster. It's not going to be a problem for browsing or videos. I'm guessing it's not fanless though.

Was I thinking of the 1st gen one?
Yes probably, I have the first gen with the 4k screen that only lasts 4 hours, gets hot, and has grounding issues with touchpad. POS built out of premium materials.

Correct. The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 has a fan and a vent along the back edge.

In contrast, the first generation Samsung Galaxy Chromebook was fanless.

I own both.

Good luck!

I've had a pixel book i5 that I've had since 2017. Battery is pretty bad after 6 years and for basic work use it's been slowing down with all of the updates. Wonder if this would really be an upgrade or not really

Have you done a power wash? You may be able to bring it back to life. I think even an old i5 would run fast on chrome

Buyer beware, the Galaxy Chromebooks were plagued with intermittent touchpad issues. I had to RMA mine twice before they finally gave me a refund.

Got two of the "Excellent" Open Box ones for <$180 incl. tax for the kids, one in store, one shipped. It's a nice looking machine, lightweight, perfect size and weight, performs well, backlit keyboard and higher specs than the other shyte in the price range. The camera is crappy.

No lag on Roblox even with the combo attacks (which is important for it's intended use).

There appears to be an issue with Discord on this thing that I'm trying to resolve at the moment.

Can't believe how cheap these are. Great deal at sub-$200. Pretty good at $300 compared to others in the price range based on the specs.
How did you get Roblox to work properly on your device? I have the i5-10210 model and it's a slug there. My model has a 2k or 4k screen and it is amazing for reading or watching a movie.

btw, I paid $300 from Samsung like 3+ years ago. So, this feels like a lot for a 10th gen chip. The battery is still great though and I can get 4-8h out of it depending on what I am doing. Often, it feels like way more than that and can be if the screen brightness is lowered.

The touchpad has been pretty much broken for like 2 years though. So, YMMV as it seems others have found out. The touchscreen works fine for navigating around.

You might want to install a light OS on that MT8173C.
eg....Xubuntu only requires 1GB of RAM and 1.5Ghz dual-core processor
Arch Linux
Linux Lite

Look at the product page on the Best Buy site. They show up there when/if they become available.

We didn't do anything really. Installed and done.
