I used to have one of these. The guitar feels and sounds great. The pickups were a little cockeyed in their setting, but that can be adjusted, of course.
For those who have a DLX Please report which type and the exact weight on yours specifically. Perhaps we can come up with an average weight and that way buyers can likely get the weight they desire.
Some like a heavy guitar; because they feel heavy is not cheapened. Others like myself like them on the light side, to prevent fatigue when playing a lot.
Ash is the preferred wood usually; because of it's tonal quality. Though "tone wood" is mainly an acoustic guitar top (Spruce and solid) thing. At least enough where people could tell, *if* they were A/B testing and listening for differences.
However; it is the potential lighter weight of Ash and slightly less likely to dent or round out screw holes that are it's strengths. Basswood is great as well; but you may or may not like the grain pattern, if it is not painted with a sold color. It depends how well the specific cut. and how well the basswood grain is successfully bleached so any see through grain finishes. My no logo eStratBay basswood grain looks nice. Ash has a nice grain. Some say original Strats (a couple of different Fender variations) used Ash, because it was readily available. And it was available; but I'm sure they knew its advantages too.
My understanding is Ash was hard to source; but now it is not a problem. However more weight could be our issue today. Swap Ash is not a different tree; but a lighter weight Ash wood, from Ash trees grown in wetlands areas. Each guitars body weight can vary significantly. DLX's are great bargains; but tend to be a little heavy. I believe starts are about 6 to 9 lbs. And the difference is very noticeable. And of course; depending on various hardware difference as well..
