The stock is where it was was pre-pandemic in April 2019:

Cost of labor, raw materials, and transport has gone up, the selling price of the product has gone up - it's a wash.

Well yeah, it's called corporate greed.
B&M stores are closing all over, you can't just magically raise prices for no reason. Fertilizer spikes, farmers going out of business https://www.forbes.com/sites/forb...6604f5b5

Stick or cream. Try the best, Spieck STICK or a TOBS brand flavor shave cream tub. Moderate priced (good for long lasting value). Arko stick, on a budget if you don't care about it's plain soap smell. Just to name a very inexpensive one. You might find a deal on "Kiss My face" shave cream in a easy pump, again for low cost, if it hasn't inflated. The best value stuff is usually ordered online. Most of the shave cream in big box stores is bad. With bad additives like butane. Avoid the worse, non-forming shave creams. And while face wash or conditioner can also work and are OK to use; they are not better or cheaper.
Other than preferred cost and scent then look for...
1. Superior fast whip up,
2. Cushioning layer,
3. Staying on slickness
Pick a stick.
It's amazing how little good shave soap or cream has to be used to fill up a good (very inexpensive big synthetic) brush, for a face full and for around three face passes or directions. About 3 quick swipes (after showering) with a good shave stick soap, then swirl. With your stubble grain direction, across your grain, and with practiced light angle shaving optionally against the grain barely(not newbies nor usually on neck stubble). Note the first with grain pass should get about 99% and be plenty enough, for it's time-saving self. This process is NOT slower, after you quickly get used to it. But that only comes with many days of patent practice (for new DE user to get to absolute expert), after your skin (particular face elasticity) adjusts to much, *much* closer shaves. Compared to the best (friction inducing) cartridges. Then later you simply pick your fine tuned (Double Edge SAFETY) gap closeness range (easy with an adjustable) and your blade; that is only sharp enough for your face (not here discussing all over body/trimmer shaving) stubble. Do NOT start with a Feather brand blade (or huge gap), if you are just starting a beard or don't grow one well yet. Feather brand blades are the most challenging, for a reason. The sharpest, thinnest (Japanese) DE blades are really best only for the absolute toughest old stubble; and likely a tight control gap (you choose), or for the most practiced, expert DE shaver. Don't use the hardest setup when just starting! However, don't start with the easiest, standard Derby brand blades; unless your beard is like a new teen-age beard or you are trying to actually leave the shortest stubble/look. DE is that custom, to fit all! Everyone should consider DE shaving; but not the same setup of a gap(etc..) and blade sharpness(etc..), by far. But no worries, if you *NEED* to shave then an Astra or Dorco (7 cent) mid *sharp* blade can work for almost everyone. Just start with the gaps adjusted tighter for a few weeks; before you get used to the minor difference of NOT using a lot of friction, and with your new, going with your new less closer cutting angle, on your not as thick stubble, face areas. Go for only looks when new to DE wet shaving, never against the grain, baby smooth. And even always leave an unseen; but only felt stubble, on any sensitive areas prone to razor bumps from curly stubble. Like most necks front, back and sides.
Don't experiment here. It's been done. Instead progress. Every day, better.
Not for insane people. Now the power is yours. Yes responsibly. Beware, "marketing".
