I have never seen a blanket like this made of anything else, so if anything the mandatory comment would be if it wasn't polyester.

As long as you don't mind a blanket made of plastic, it's fine. I've been trying to replace as much of my daily use plastic as possible with natural products. (Sheets, pillows, pillowcases, blankets, plates, bowls, etc.) It's actually quite a hard task to accomplish.
I hear ya, and then there's the premium prices.
What have you had the best luck with so far?

Bought this on the previous deal. Really decent quality. Especially for 10 bucks. These things are huge too.

Under Specifications it says:
"Bed Size Queen"

Not a problem, just be aware.
I have a king bed and the last size I used was 98x90 inches, it was big enough with about hanging on the side. This size is 104x98 inches so I'm sure is more than a ft be hanging off both sides

How does this compare to the $7 blanket? Looks thicker.

I keep buying these blanket, bedsheets cuz of SD effect… only so much i can keep shoving in the closet hoping wifey won't notice.
Knives, blankets, and flashlights. I might need to buy a storage shed dedicated to these items.

possible to cut in half without it fraying too much?

Any basic Singer machine ( usually $50-150 depending on where you get it) can sew a basic line or hem to prevent fraying. Good idea though to make smaller throw blankets.

I just got an email from Costco.com with a $7.99 price. Deleted in after seeing it was all polyester.

Do you recommend these for a blanket fort? And how many would you need?

I'm maybe thinking 1 for the top, 4 for the sides, 1 for the floor and 1 to hug per person.

edit:
probably this design looks good:

edit2: instead of chairs, I would use shelves with wheels from a past deal and then rest a piramid structure made from wood to form and support the ceiling

feel free to recommend other designs

Bought 4 of the blankets on the other Costco deal. Guess I'll grab a couple of these too. Wife is going to question my sanity when then all show up in the mail.
