For the uninformed. I work in IT in healthcare. The test are not going to stop you from getting COVID, they will let you know you have COVID. What you choose to do with this information is up to you and, let's face it, your employer. For us it means working from home for at least the day (for a non-positive result) or working from home for at least the week (for a positive result). We care about our coworkers and have the ability to protect them from getting sick. Which in turn protects them from spreading it to their families and patients.
We are lucky enough to have an employeer that cares about spreading disease and are lucky enough to have the ability to work from home. One of my coworkers is currently working from home because he is sick and I appreciate him for it.
I've been on SD for ages and I never get why people feel the need to argue about stuff like this. If you don't want the test, think it's stupid, whatever, don't sign up for it then. If you want it, great, get it.

tl;dr - chill out with the fighting
If you have a certain Kaiser plan, they give you home test for free. Its 4 boxes of 2pk max a month per person.

please don't waste your money on stuff like zinc supplements. that stuff didn't work for cold relief and it certainly will do nothing for covid and rsv and flu

If you're generally healthy and don't develop severe symptoms, you certainly can (CDC has even revised its guidance with respect to when you can go out in public again as the disease has "milded out"). You can speed the recovery process up by taking Paxlovid if you're concerned you might develop more severe symptoms, but have to be mindful of the potential side effects. It's a pretty heavy anti-viral drug, after all. Long Covid is the "residual" you're describing, but there's not really a proven way to prevent it. And you can get it even after a mild illness.

The crazy thing about this is that more recent studies have shown that mild cases seem to cause more long covid (that is what I've read), and with each subsequent infection, your risk increases as more damage is done.

Of course this is a thread about free tests, but want to say there is a study in the Lancet showing metformin reduces the risk of long covid by I believe 40–60% if started within 2–4 days of symptoms (don't quote me on all of the numbers—I read it about 6 months ago).

I'm a doc and I diagnose flu/covid daily. I'm not here to comment on the deal per se, but rather to point out that the cdc appropriately updated their guidelines as of 3/1. Covid no longer requires a 5 day isolation period. We recommend that Covid/flu/rsv or any other virus be managed similarly… if you're fevered and sick, stay home. Once symptoms have shown some improvement and you're fever free x24hrs without fever reducers, you're good to go. This is what we recommended before Covid and it makes sense. Thus, testing for Covid etc when you are ill has little utility unless it is required by your employer. Hydrate, rest, and your immune system will fight no matter if you have a positive test or not. Stay well!

Genuinely curious about your opinion.

How does testing have no utility if even mild cases cause lasting damage? Each subsequent infection increases your risk of long covid. There's drugs that can help reduce your risk of long covid (the Lancet metformin study). Metformin is a safe drug for most people, so why wouldn't you want to know if your illness is covid?

Do these detect the current mutation?

As far as I know, yes, but I believe you need to wait a few days. I've seen it recommended to swab your throat, cheek, and then nostrils (with the same swab); I've also seen a lot of people have started sticking the swab in the toilet to test their feces. I guess it makes sense given wastewater data and the tracking of covid. 🤷 ♀️

Welp, I take zinc and quercitin and have never had it, never been jabbed. Can't remember the last time I was sick with anything. It's been several years at least. Maybe a decade.

Your immune system must be rock-solid, then - that's not the case for everyone (in fact, you're likely an outlier). I'm sure there are people who have never masked/vaxxed/avoided people who are ill and never got Covid. There are also people who have jumped off a 50-foot bridge and lived. So what?

Is the zinc and quercetin a recent development or have you been taking them for the past decade?

Ordered on March 5th, got confirmation email, but still no tracking.

The website is discontinued too. How do you check the order status?
