Hate to sound ungrateful, and obviously there are deals out there to be had - but, it's just not worth the effort of trying to shuffle through all of this to hope you stumble on to something.
From their FAQ:
Just earn or redeem miles on American or with an AAdvantage® partner at least once every 24 months. We'll automatically extend your mileage expiration date 24 months from the date of your most recent qualifying activity.
So as long as you are flying, or if you are earning miles (i assume with a AA card as well that you buy some snacks at the store with once every year or two would work)

Miles: 5k + $47 fee
vs
Cash: $266 (via google flights).
So it's about 4.38 cents per mile which is pretty good deal imo. For me, I'd rather burn statement credit from CC (like Amex Aspire, etc) than use mile for a short 2-hr flight.

This is a fantastic promotion, most people won't be able to participate, but you can book ten tickets with your 50K miles
