If you want a cheap alternative to these, I throw 8-10 chunks of Himalayan sea salt in a glass with some lemon juice, potassium citrate powder and water. You'll have enough supplies to make electrolyte drinks for months.

To be fair, anything in excess is bad for you. Maltodextrin is, for all intents and purposes, a filler. It provides some carbs for energy, but really is nutritionally lacking.
