I have no idea why anyone would buy someone else's sloppy seconds when it comes to a device that literally wears out with use.
Because the wear doesn't affect the performance, and people that buy these tend to buy them for array servers with redundancy, or at minimum backups. In which case a drive failure isn't a big deal. Reputable refurb sellers usually also offer a decent warranty. These drives are cheap enough for me to have spare on deck, and at most I'm looking at 1 day downtime for the array rebuild in case one of them eats the dirt, and I will get it replaced under warranty. I really wish someone told me this before I built my initial server.
Just curious, what devices literally don't wear out with use? Would you not buy a "sloppy seconds" automobile because they literally wear out with use?

That might be what it says, but it shipped FedEx 2 day. I ordered late last night and it will arrive on Thursday.

Because I could get almost 2 of the other, larger drives for the price of this? All drives fail and you now you have a backup. And I'm almost positive two datacenter hard drives even used will last longer than a single Ironwolf pro.

Their website seems to have been designed by idiots to thwart anyone ever using it. That said, by using a 'guest account' after bouncing off their 'real account has not been verified,' product registration page, and reloading the shipping section three or four times, I managed to outwit their HTML and buy a drive.
