I've owned this for over a year and it is a good mini PC but it does throttle heavily under GPU load. Every couple days it will high-speed fan for almost a minute turning on before you get a video display. Most times powering it on. It's a brief high-speed fan for a few seconds and video post. There have been no updates and this model being the lite version cannot use the UM 773 non-lite version bios.
This is being discounted because there is a new version out available directly from minisforum with the 780M GPU.

I'm sure a Ryzen 8600 / 8700 cpu/gpu model is in the works as well

Been eyeing a Minisforum for a while, what's the best model/product line in terms of power/reliability? For general purpose computing, no gaming or video editing. I used to have a bunch of Intel NUCs and always enjoyed the form factor.

I've been monitoring 7735hs mini pcs for a little while, and this has been the price for the barebone from minisforum for a bit.

If you're really set on this platform, the better deal seems to be the Firebat 7735hs with 16gb DDR5 and 512gb SSD for $359 imo

I'd recommend having a look at Tuxedo OS. Or Pop!_OS, if you don't like KDE. Depending on your goals, ChimeraOS could be pretty interesting too.

I got the Firebat from Amazon and it's performed very well so far. I messaged Firebat through Amazon and they sent me a link to an updated BIOS firmware the next day that seemed to add some extra features and a small performance bump.

Firebat was $300 on xmas after you clipped their $50 coupon.
I didnt bite because i thought it'd go lower but it just went up.

Hoping that happens again because I'm trying to keep it to $300 myself!

The 680m has twice the GPU performance as the Ryzen 5000 it replaced. The new 7000 is only 10%-15% better on the GPU side. Low end gaming or mainly emulation, this mini PC would be perfect. If you run steamOS or Linux on this, it would be better than the steam deck.

Be warned, I had this system and with very high quality ram clocked low at 4800 (it can't go to 5600), it will thermal throttle the GPU after 10-13 minutes. It will cook the ram to about 85 degrees to when the ram starts to throttle. The bottom compartment is a hot box and the only solution is a 3d printed or at cost bottom plate with additional fans.

Those are desktop parts where the 7735HS and 7840HS are mobile parts. The 8600G/8700G would be power starved in a mini PC this size (and probably overheat anyway). If ASRock comes out with a Zen 4 DeskMini that should be able to cool and adequately power those desktop parts.

With all that being said I doubt the desktop parts are much faster than their mobile counterparts; maybe 10-15% depending on the situation.
