The same BS is occurring right now in my area (NYC)!
The infamous app debilitation syndrome!....at 5:35 PM (how convenient)!
No one is going to convince me that this nonsense isn't intentional! Same BS/three days in a row now (and numerous times previously)! The app is completely crippled and there's no online ordering option on the website!

I believe that your experience is true, but I'm more likely to believe that your location and the times in which you make your order has more to do with the downtimes vs some malicious game they're playing. NYC during peak ordering times is probably a lot more busy than many other places. To me it sounds more like they just can't handle the volume of orders. Otherwise, we'd be hearing more of these same issues in more locations.

An interesting theory, but all other apps for all other places in my (congested) area are just fine. Regardless of the time. Almost never an issue elsewhere. So, would you theorize that only Wendy's can't handle the onslaught at peak times in NYC? If that's true, it's absolutely pathetic that ONLY the Wendy's app can't handle it! I'll stick with it being intentionally sabotaged to force customers to pay full price at high volume times! "Surge pricing" disguised as a technical glitch!

I had a Dave's Double today and it was delicious. I often end up at McDonald's with my kids but the food has just sucked these past few years.

Yes, that's exactly my theory. But let's say your assumption is correct. What benefit does Wendy's have to "play games"? The short term gain of people overpaying? People are price sensitive with fast food. Especially with you living in NYC where there are plenty of options, they would only lose customers. How many times does a person need to pay full price at Wendy's before they stop going there? Sorry, but that's way less probable to me than them simply not being able to handle the sheer volume of orders.

Anecdotally, I've been eating at Wendy's way more since they started having the $1/$2 Dave's Singles and Doubles. I suspect they're trying to get me try out their food and get me hooked.

But you're entitled to your opinion too.

edit: why are you still eating there if they're "playing games"? Wouldn't it be easier to just eat somewhere else? I know I would if that's what I really believed.

I don't agree with their surge pricing BS, but for $2 the double is a good sandwich. Ate one on the way home from work the other day.

I think it's just a coincidence, I'm with others that don't have issues ordering at busy times. The only issue I ever have is with WiFi/cellular, but usually disabled WiFi temporarily fixes it (or turning off my VPN/iCloud Relay).

Just an FYI, unlike BK or MCD, you can use multiple offers in one day. I order the doubles for pick up. Then order a singles at the drive thru. I get two big burgers for just $3. Been eating these all week. And people say fast food is getting expensive. Hog wash. You're just not doing it right.

They didn't "walk back" the "surge pricing", that was misreported by many news outlets. The CEO said "Beginning as early as 2025, we will begin testing more enhanced features like dynamic pricing and day-part offerings."

Wendy's executives have since clarified that its dynamic pricing model would not increase prices for customers, saying in a news release the CEOs comments were "misconstrued." Wendy's said that while price adjustments could happen in both directions, the upper limit would remain the current price.

It sounds more likely that they may offer "happy hour" deals similar to what Arby's used to do with the sliders, or Taco Bell did with their drinks.

A Wendy's single is priced just as cheap as a Big Mac, and the combo is a buck cheaper than McD's If you're buying fast food at regular prices, Wendy's is fairly priced, especially as their burger is better quality.

I think the metric of comparsion ought to be comparing the equivalent of a Double Quarter Pounder at each (because the double is almost always a much better deal than a single).

I can check the app fine at home. Near the Wendy's doesn't work. Get home, works again. I don't know if it's just time based, but for me it seems to be location based as well. Very shady.
