I did this trade in a few days ago. The slim PS5 is really loud compared to the original. You can Google this. I'm definitely disappointed in that regard.
This just seems like a complete waste of time and resources. My launch PS5 runs great.
I agree that it's not a bad deal if you consider it as a paid warranty extension. However the PS5 Pro is rumored to come out later this year so it might make more sense to wait for that IMHO.

In terms of making your money back via selling the code, people should be aware there are A LOT of digital copies of Spiderman 2 on the market so you won't be making anywhere near $65 unless you you find someone clueless.

Also... Not to throw shade but, a properly functioning PS5 (even the launch model) should never sound like an airplane taking off (even for intense games) unless it's been seriously neglected in terms of cleaning... (or you've just never experienced the PS4 or a gaming PC.)

I've had my ps5 since it launched - have there been any complaints about the slim? Might be a nice "upgrade" for a fresh console (not that I've had any issues with mine)

I upgraded my PS5 right before Xmas when they were offering $400 trade in. The Slim does generate less heat so it should extend the lifespan. Plus you're getting a renewed warranty, if you planned to buy spiderman 2 it's an added bonus....or you could try to sell the code and make most of your money back.

Main differences are the USBs at the front of the unit, and I did notice that the fans doesn't sound like an airplane taking off for intense games.

Sounds like a win-win.

Noob question: are all the PS5s now the slim variant? I don't see any labeling on the box so I want to make sure before going through the effort.

They still sell the fat units, easiest way to tell is the slim has a black line running through the side. Most listing will also say Slim in the title.

Make sure to get a membership in the store tomorrow as it really helps out the store and employee stats with pro upgrades
good point - ty.
I just returned some clearance gamestop items there that they have to deal with a couple days ago so hopefully this will help them forgive me lol

my only annoyance is that I only have a spare black Dualsense :/ My white one I turned into this. worst of all is I don't even use it lol - I use the dualsense edge instead :/

I'm not sure if I pay tax on the trade credit portion of the purchase in my state (MN). If so, this becomes a $125 proposition with the pro membership, which I would not do.

Called my local GameStop and they had the spiderman console in stock, call around, ymmv but did this exact thing last weekend. Didn't have pro, but they bundled it all in one transaction, pro+trade in + PS5 slim. Extra 150ish gigs and smaller form, much better for travelling worth the upgrade for me. Didn't have to reinstall games either just swapped SSD to new console and went back to playing

$400? Wouldn't that mean the upgrade difference was the same as it currently is?
